It really depends on how you are going to build it and what your budget is.
I say 1.5" .120 wall mild steel tubing should be pretty good for most applications.
You can get DOM tubing which is stronger & more expensive
Or Chromolly tubing which is stronger and more expensive yet.
And I think 4130 is stronger that chromolly and more expensive too... |

| To keep costs as low as possible and still be sure you are safe, I'de use DOM for the cage around the people, and mild steel everywhere else. |

| Drawn On Mandrell-There is no seam on one side like the HREW(Hot Rolled Electrically Welded) tubing. |

| Mild steel either 1.5" or 1.625 with about .120 wall thickness will be sufficient and the most cost effective. |

The 1.5 inch .120 is a good choice for your buggy

DOM is welded but drawn over a mandrel and is a lot tighter dimension than rolled & welded tube. Seamless tube is an extrusion with no seam. And lastly 4130 is a chromemolly alloy .

DOM can be welded or seamless. It just means it was drawn over a mandrel in a draw bench. The company I work for cold draws (DOM) both seamless and welded tubing. Seamless tubing is not extruded, but pierced on a rolling mill. We also pierce 4130 and cold draw it making it DOM.
