The flap's thermostat (133 827 611) was available separately."
An almost direct quote from J.T. Garwood.
Interestingly, he goes on to point out the federal cars that year had an impression on their engine lids (111 827 025AD) exactly matching the cut open area on the California cars, but it was solid instead.
I've got one of these decklids in my attic. :? |

Thanks Scott. I thought it might have something to do with the AC, but having been a Cali resident most of my early life, this makes sense. I do remember all the restrictions they were putting on cars at that time. I even remember having to put on a "NOX" device on my 67 beetle so I could pass the smog inspection......took it off the bext day. What a load of crap that was! |

I have a European VW 1303 convertible 1976 model. It has the temperature controlled flap, too. |

I can't imagine so, but is this as effective as the deck lid standoffs? I run with those b/c with my top down, airflow is drastically cut to the engine. |

I doubt it.
Decklid standoffs are going to let more air in but then you're dealing with the extra drag, possibility of sucking something in the engine bay, etc. |

My thoughts too. As far as drag goes, I'm just not that concerned, and as for something getting sucked in... ehhh, it just seems really remote. Either way, the dramatic drop in my operating temp is well worth the minimal chance. Texas summers, on the highway are pretty tough for the heat, so I run pretty much everything possible to keep the temps down. |

Does anyone know where to find these: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=8136198

I have searched and searched and found nothing I think they are cool and living in Texas, you need every ounce of cooling air you can get for your little bug. Please post links if anyone has any info. I have tried searching the model number from other posts with no luck.
Im one of those that get a little obsessed with original VW parts. if they made it i want in on my bug!. Thanks! |
