I just received the Birth Certificate for my 50 Split, it shows that it had the M-009 and M-010 codes but I can't figure out what they are! Does anyone have any idea?
Thanks! |

They are sometimes confusing, the translation from german to english doesn't help either.
Not 100% sure these are correct but here's what I have:
M009 amber indicator lights... maybe the popes nose lens??
M010 optional dust filter... could be a T aircleaner?? or a cyclone?
This info is usually listed at the bottom of the certificate if your car has these options.

| Jim! Thanks a lot for those possibilities. The codes are at the bottom of my certificate, but they have no definitions. By the way, my 50 was an export for Brasil, and they may be options strickly for Brasil. |

The birth certificate for my Split shows M010 also.. and no explanation.. however, I can confirm my car came with a Cyclone Aircleaner... so perhaps this has sussed M010... Jim where did you find the listing for these codes? |

I have some notes on M codes in my "birth certificate" file, compiled over the last 25 years or so... Not sure how accurate those are, just some notes I have for entertainment use only.
I'd try to find out if Brazil required amber tail or brake lights in 50? |

| I have the M010 on my zwitter, also undefined. My car does however have a very unusual oil bath air filter instead of the t-filter. It's not a 36 horse type, there is no strap over the top, it just has a wing nut to secure the top of the filter to the rest of the housing. |

There were at least 2 types of air cleaners used on Zwitters. Both are shown in the Zwitter owners manual, the t and the oil bath one that you have. |

Ordered mine through VW's website on Jan. 3 2007, and received Feb. 24 2007. Took seven weeks and three days.
I paid through American Express (called them up & told them it would be a one-time Europe charge).
My Feb. '51 11C was shipped to "Scania-Vabis, Soedertaelje/Sweden", with M-codes 004 and 007, which "cannot be identified".
Motor number and color are "not available" and "not mentioned", respectively.
Anybody know what 004 and 007 codes are? |

Thanks virtanen...I saw that link before, but it didn't convince me that what I had were "special options".
According to that chart, M004 (or M4) is for "4-speed manual transmission with double-joint axle". Why would VW list this as a special option? Weren't all splits delivered that way?
Also, that chart doesn't list M007 code. Anybody know??? |

Most of those M codes are for later models. The list that they came from didn't have much for early models.
I have a list, that is far from complete, but it only lists option from catalogs and manuals that I have and can be proven to be correct.
Check them out:

Group,
I pulled my Birth Cert. for my Nov. 53 Oval and June 48 Split.
The Oval lists M codes 9/10/18/20/50/83/84/94
The certificate says M 20 mile speedometer, M 94 locking decklid handle.
The others are not identified.
Now the Split lists M 25 and M 54. unidentified.
Sconord said M 20 was also a mile speedometer.
Also M 10 is listed as engine dustproofing similar to Jim at Zarwerks M 10 dust filter.
So it seems M 20 is confirmed but M 10 is a maybe.
