this is a 74 standard project i started in may 07.

the car was my first car and my daily in highschool.
OKAY for getting around to school and work, but with the wheels, FG fenders and the nose in the clouds, it wasnt living up to its full potential.

the PO took alot of nasty shortcuts to make a quick sale and a buck and ive begun to undo his work.

the front apron had been bondo'd at some point so i started by tearing it all out:

not only was it bondo'd, it was a fiberglass sheetmetal poprivet sandwich
and it was THICK

i also removed the interior to inspect the floors
found nice solid heater channels

only problem area being on the left and right pillar

underneath the carpet:

turns out the PO repaired a few swiss cheese holes in the pans by filling them with fiberglass and sandwiching a section of replacement pan on top

i decided then to pull the body off and plan on replacing both pan halves.

while waiting for parts to arrive i did some work on the tank

i resealed the inside with POR15's tank sealer.

then i stripped all the old grease, paint and overspray off the exterior of the tank with a cleaner i found at walgreens

just let it soak then go after it with a paint scraper

after getting the tank bare i applied a coat of POR15 to the exterior of the tank

back to the pan; engine and transaxle removed:

old pad mounts were shot, ordered new ones from gene berg:

went in to remove the shift rod and found a little souvenir when i reached my hand in

its fairly beat up on the outside but plays just fine, its all old motown music.

some new parts that came in with the pan halves

2 inch narrowed beam w/adjusters

2.5 in drop spindles 5x130 discs
also new shift rod bushing, coupler, fwd mount

started to cut the floors out

then chizzeled out what was left. what a fun tool!

all the vibration shook loose some rust particles and i found some cancer areas

then cut out firewall and framehead panel

all i had available was cutoff wheels and the air chisel. what a PITA.

more new parts that came in

new firewall and FH panel, lowered balljoints rear disc conversion, SS brake lines, new metal lines and more.

cleaned up and painted the transaxle

also had my wheels refinished by magro wheels in tampa
new centercaps, new tires, polished, repainted, mounted and balanced

before:

after:

repainted front and rear calipers.
you wont be able to see them much behind the cosmics so i didnt do anything fancy crazy or too detailed:

also cleaned up the heater controls

welded in the FW and the FH bottom.

next step is the pan halves, then strip and paint with POR15, seam seal and reassemble.

stripped the bottom of the pan a few days ago

then a friend that wanted to get his hands dirty stopped by and we did some wire wheeling

got things ready for the POR15:

the second coat will go on today or tomorrow[/quote]

Word of caution on the 2nd coat, if you don't reapply within the I believe

4-8 hr. window, you need to sand first before applying the 2nd coat.

Keep the pictures coming, love it.

hey thanks for the heads up, i didnt see that on the can so i probably would have just brushed right over.
the last time i used it i applied the 2nd coat in the 4-8hr window and it left brush marks and high/low bright dull spots like it didnt apply even and self level.
i was worried about that happening this time so thats why i wanted to apply the 2nd coat dry.
