Hehe, I can't wait till I can get the water injection installed in the VW! 10 lbs is enough to waste V8's, so 18 ought to be downright scary!

i tell ya... i really like turbo engines... even my tiny engine is right damn stout... i had upped the boost to 17psi which is the max i can run without detonation on pump 93 fuel... i thought i busted the transaxle last week, but turns out i just busted the rear drive hub....

That's how it goes! Going fast has it's risks- one of which happens to be broken parts. My worst wall of shame part is one of those POS GM timing gears they used to install into their 6 and 8 cylinder engines. You know, the kind with that nylon or plastic or whatever making up the gear teeth? Yeah, that engine ate every single valve when the chain slipped. It was one of my first engines, and it didn't live long!

bugninva Tue Jul 15, 2008 6:07 pm

those nylon teeth suck... what a bad idea, even for a stocker... IMHO

Yeah. Even worse idea trying to wring out a bunch of non-existant horsepower from a junkyard longblock! Never again!

that's how you "learn"... by blowing them up!!! i've um...err.... learned a few things over the years...

miniman82 Tue Jul 15, 2008 9:00 pm

Let's hope dog_jr911 doesn't learn like we do...

Do it right the first time, Chris!!!! 8)

slow and steady!

well, i took the alternator in to be tested.

scary thing is, when we were testing it, it was burning. or the crap inside was cleaning out, who knows.

but it passed!!!!!

so ill run it.
lol.

i cant decide if i should order the header or injectors next. i shooting for what will get me the most fab and work time till i transistion to my new job. figure the injectors will need to have the rail fabbed, and some taping. little weld here and there for the mounts, and viola!

with the header, i can make my intake, attach the BOV, TB, injector for alki or water vapor, (hehe both) run my intercooler... etc.
seems like more work.

or ill order all the wiring and re-wire the b!tch. lol.... not looking forwared to that at all!!

also, the tranny is being reworked by KCR right now, i took advantage of that warranty till the last day! literally.... hehe.

also.... im making a mount for the laptop for the cabin, AND the engine bay! makes life easier.

finally, im moving my gauge pod the the roof, there really is no room anywhere on the dash, top or bottom, for them. ill throw them next to the mirror, and do a nice lil wrap with the headliner. should look pretty trick!!!!

besides that... ive been powdercoating my tin. looks sweet! ill post a teaser later.

alright, i recieved the 2nd flapper housing and actuator.

it fits!!!

heres my question-

which actuator do i use? one has two vac lines, and the "remanfactured" one only has one, but it fits right.

also, that one vac line goes to the compressor side, where that hole is?

miniman82 Fri Jul 18, 2008 5:57 pm

Use the one you like best, I guess. On the one with 2 lines, 1 goes to a source of pressure (such as the compressor housing line), and the other normally gets routed back to the airbox on OEM cars. You can either leave it open, or plumb it to the filter, but DO NOT block it off!

I think you can also put a boost controller on that 2nd line, but I'm not certain.

dog_jr911 Fri Jul 18, 2008 6:20 pm

hmm ok. just checking, because im selling the larger one one ebay.

dog_jr911 Wed Jul 23, 2008 6:37 pm

damn this thread is getting long, with few actual results

thats ok, it will be done within 3 weeks!

alright, i have to order new heads.

now, since im running FI end castings, i don want to waste $$ on a head thats too big for those end castings.

i was thinking of the los banditos heads, possibly the 044's.

im doing some research as we speak, and im open to opinions.

just not the ones where the heads cost 1000

miniman82 Wed Jul 23, 2008 7:40 pm

You could go with the 044 CNC Mag's like I got and be fine, but if you go with an OEM casting, get heads from a reputable porter- Tims, DRD, K-roc....ect. The Los Banditos are a total waste, unless you get them ported. They're just stock heads with bigger seats and valves, nothing more. DRD L5 is what I'd get if I were you. http://www.drdracingheads.com/heads/heads_L5.php

No comment... :?

dog_jr911 Wed Jul 23, 2008 10:34 pm

it leaked the day i got it, and i didnt care too much.

and after i pulled the engine, i noticed the leak, and called about it. i had three days to get it in.

i had already been talking with the dealer about the problem. they knew the day i put it in. just didnt take care of it.

holy sheeet those heads are $$$$$$$$

dog_jr911 Wed Jul 23, 2008 10:44 pm

considering dumping some $$$$ into heads.

miniman82 Thu Jul 24, 2008 12:08 am

Gotta pay if you wanna play!

At least that's the most expensive part of the engine, everything else thereafter is relatively cheap.

dog_jr911 Thu Jul 24, 2008 2:56 pm

i called the Tim's, they recomended a stage 1, with a little modification.

so i think thats what ill go with.

dog_jr911 Thu Jul 24, 2008 9:45 pm

had to cut a bit of tin for the FI castings to fit.

also, i did some number punching, and it looks like ill be ordering 3049.18 dollars worth of parts. including alot of stuff i lost to the fire.

turbodon1776 Sat Aug 23, 2008 1:28 am

wow thats quite a chunk of change.
shoulda gone carbureated
i only have a couple hundred more than that in my WHOLE build.
and thats BIG power too 8)
heha
just jeerin at ya
i wish youd build some sweet plenums tho, those stock efi castings just look so peuney and restrictive :?
