i need to replace the insulation around the heater duct underneath the back seat. the left side has the original insulation, i was wondering if i could use the foil backed insulation on the other side? or any recommendations

Anything like the foil backed black stuff will get soft and or melt and stink you out of the car. I used aluminum repair tape, then wrap the duct with foam padding and secure with a couple of jumbo zip ties.

Go to a motorcycle shop and get 2 sheets of "baffle" wrap. This is for fiberglas wrapped muffler baffles. Comes in a rectangular sheet. The purpose is to help absorb sound. It will get pretty warm from the hot air, but not real hot, so you could use other materials as well that could stand up to the temp of the air coming from the heater boxes. (not sure what that temp really is, but I would be surprised if its much over 150 degrees)
