Since I commented on lifting a THING is a previous post I have received numerous questions regarding that subject, so I will not hi-jack his post and instead will create this one.







Above: before restoration and lift kit.


Anybody who is considering lifting their THING, with a lift kit. Please consider the following:

If you install a lift kit on a type 181,

1) The steering column is no longer in align with the steering box-the box now resides 3" lower than the steering column. So you must cut a hole in the fire wall to get them to line-up :-(

2) Your seats are now 3" to low. They must be raised up.

3) The engine now sits 3" to low. You now must try and modified the engine mounts to get up with the body. Even so, I never did get it to seal, around the body :-(

4) You can now run big tires:-)

I hope that answers some of the questions.
