You still have your fuel injection? Are you talking about all of the flexible lines underneath the front of the car? You'll need plenty of 7mm fuel injection rated hose. Get 10 ft. or so, IIRC- you'll have a little extra I think, but always best to have a little more than you need on hand.

The fuel injection is in general good, though parts for D-jet are not as available as for L-jet ('74 412 and '75 and newer buses). Replacing the FI hoses is a must on anything this old. You just have to suck it up and pay the price for the FI rated hose, don't use regular fuel line even if it sounds like it is rated high enough, it is not.

i'm confused, i have a 74, and i'm sure its Fi. whats the difference between the L and the D jet

The difference is in how they sense the fuel requirements of the engine. The L-jet uses an air flow meter, while the D-jet uses a combination of a manifold pressure sensor and a throttle position sensor. US '74 412s had L-jet, I am guessing that yours will have L-jet as well.

74 is L-Jet unless you have a manual transmission car. then it is still D-Jet. anyone know how long the vacuum line from the trans to the engine is? I think that is the source of my vacuum leak. at least i hope it is... 9mpg sucks!

About 1 meter of 7mm (click here for '73 variant vacuum hose diagram)

Scottie - don't forget to replace the rear fuel hoses too. Start at the exit from the body and work your way through the heater, engine, and return lines.

all the fuel line were replace a few weeks prior to my buying it. the only line that didnt get replace was the one directly from the fuel tank
