here is a little update on the project.. i got my adapter from kennedy on friday and the fit is very nice and clean.. here are a few photos of the adapter and flywheel on the new motor.

twistingawrench Mon Jan 07, 2008 1:29 pm

so then i went ahead and removed my 1835 motor which has been very good to me (and is also for sale) and then mounted up the new engine.

here is a pic with a radiator that was laying around the shop just so i could get an idea of what size i needed and where to put it.

twistingawrench Mon Jan 07, 2008 1:35 pm

the only problem that i have encountered so far is that the high capasity oil pan that i installed on the motor was wider than the vw pan so i had to relocate my lower bars on the engine cage. i ended up routing them just underneith the mew pan. i probably lost about 1/2" of ground clearance over the previous set up so far.

oh and here is antother project in the shop that my buddy is building. its an open wheel racecar/over grown gokart with a GSXR 1100 engine. It uses VW cvs and axles tho!!

yep it sure is old.. do you remember the SACS bikes? HAHAHA
oh and its kinda tough to tell with the good quality pictures that i have  but on the back of the motor its the nitrous solinoids.

Are you still planning on going with the 3 X 5 arms on the buggy? If so, something to consider is if the tranny stays in its stock location you will have a far bit of angle on the CVs going from front to back. I have the same issue with my 4 X 5 on my car now.
Are you running your fuel cell at the front or rear of the car? If you're worried about the front end being too light then move the cell up front if you can. It made a difference with my rail.

well i think if i do change the arms then 5x5s are the way im going to do it. i realy want to get the motor swap finished up and then take it for a test weekend and beat the snot out of it and see what i should upgrade from there. now that the motor is in the car i realy dont think that it is that big of a weight differance than the vw motor i had on there before. as far as the fuel cell goes, that is just to much work for me to get done before the first race in april. haha..

Too much work? Send me the dimensions and I'll make you one....out of wood though:

ok so i busted my butt all weekend on the buggy but i think it payed off. i got all my fuel and oil plumbing done, using all AN fittings and braided line. i got the intake made up and installed. and finaly i got all the wiring for the motor done. i fired up the engine on sunday night!! runs great and idles nice.. now all thats left is radiator mounting and plumbing, and making the exhaust header and muffler. ohh plus all the little odds and ends, like wire the guages and crap like that.. here are a few more updated progress pictures. check out the way the intake is routed. looks almost LS1 style.. hahah!! enjoy!!!

great job, can you mount the oil filter inside the frame ?

twistingawrench Mon Jan 14, 2008 7:54 pm

ohh yea that oil filter is just zip tied there to keep it out of the way for now. HAHA.. that wouldent be the smartest place to put it.

waynebak Mon Jan 14, 2008 8:39 pm

Make sure to seal that bolt well that goes through the top/front of the air filter. Dont want to defeat its purpose....
