| yea ive got those rubber washers and a little bit of silicone on that bolt. but i do need to find some foam prefilters for that huge k&n so i can swap them out between heat races and between checkpoints durring desert races. i prefer the foam prefilters soaked in marvil mystery oil. those sand socks are crappy in anything but sand. silt just goes right through them. i am still thinking about making a custom air box to go around that filter but i realy like the way it looks right now.. decisions, decisions..... :D |

ok so i finished modifying the radiator last night. i had to cut off the original mounts and inlet and outlet tubes, and cap them off.. the tubes were 1 1/4" but my water in and outs on the motor are 1 1/2". so i then took some 1 1/2" tube, put it in the bead roller, cut them to length and then welded them on the end of the tank in the position that i needed. i then had to drill out the inside of the tubes for the water to flow.. the fans came in yesterday and then i had to modify the brackets to fit also!! why cant anything just bolt up?? hahahaah..
it will be mounted flat with the fans up and with the inlet and outlet pointed towards the back of the car and the water hoses running on either side of the air filer.. anyway, what do ya think?

so far, nothing. :D i have large sway away tortions with adjusters in the rear and 3" body shocks with an internal bump set up to slow that bouncing weight down. even with the new motor installed and me jumping up and down on the back end the car to settle it, it still sits almost where it did with the VW motor. if it does end up sagging a tad after i finish the radiator install, fill it with coolant and finish the power steering. then i will just crank up the rear tortions a little. and then up my nitrogen pressure in the rear shocks to compinsate for the extra weight. and if that dosent work right when i take it out to test it, ill just throw some fox or king coil overs in the back. :D |

ok so i got a call from the guys who were supposed to coat my exhaust and they said that the teflon coating they were going to use wont stand up to the heat now and they wont warrenty it, if it comes off!!! WTF is that? they want me to pay $275ish bucks for something that they arent sure is going to work? its funny cuz the guy that i talked to over their said "yea we have done headers with this stuff before" and then the owner called me and said "ive never put this stuff on a header so i cant say for sure if its gonna work".. they told me to go find an actual ceramic coaters.. :( lame, so i just painted it with high temp exhaust paint and called it a day.
now update to last night.. i got the radiator mounted and plumbed, exhaust mounted, and fans hooked up. i fire up the car and adjust the timing. car smooths out and idles great with a nice low drone to it. not to ricey, more like a street bike exhaust. :D we are all watching the (brand new) autometer guages in the dash. the temp guage hasent moved yet, so we wait some more, still nothing.. my buddy grabs the lap top and plugs it into the ECM so we can watch everything thats goin on rather than rely on the autometer. sure enough temp is at 180 and the autometer hasent moved. CRAP!! so i ground out the sender and it still dosent move.. stupid new broken guage!! hahahaah..
after running it for almost an hour and slapping it off the rev limmiter a couple of times, the engine never went above 212. hopefuly it wont get higher than that while under load and racing!! i guess the only way to find out is to go beat the piss out of it..
i just have a few finishing touches that need some attention. like remote oil filter mounting bracket, power steering pump mounting bracket, throttle cable, roll bar mounted tach, and toggle over ride switch for the fans.
i will take some nice new pictures soon and post them.. :D |

Header looks great man!
As far as coatings, I've always used Swain coatings. The only problem is you need to ship them off. Another thing you can try if all you want is a flat black finish is BBQ paint. No, it won't be a thermal barrier of any kind, but it'll be flat black and won't rust... :D |
