Stopped into my local Kragen (Schucks, Checkers) auto parts store to pick up a few electrical connectors and came across them. Built in starters and ballasts, all for only $119.99. I came so close to picking up a set, but couldn't bring myself to forking out $200+ on a pair of no-name HIDs that might not last the weekend. They look like a Hella red housing knock-off.

I bought one of those last week for the center mount on my front bumper. There was a big sale at kragen, it came out to like 75 bucks. Its A hideously bright white with A shade of blue. Its like A combination of A fog light/pencil beam this thing really illuminates the road it totally dominates my hella 500s and headlights combined-they arent kidding when they say its comparable to daylight. I made the wires like A quick disconnect so I can put it on and remove it at will. No way im going to drive around town with 120 bucks on my bumper  I might take a pic if I can find the camera. Im happy with my current setup but when I saw these with internal ballast and ignitor I just had to have an HID. comes with a lexan shield too. id give it a 4 out of 5 :)

Wow, that's a pretty good review. I just might brave it and pick up a pair. I'd like to see how they compare to Hella 4000 HIDs. I know with a $500 price difference they can't be too close.

Thats my first expierience with HID though so dont take my review too serious  . Definitly an improvement over halogen, compared to other HID systems I cant say.

This is a link to a similar kit from the same seller. The auction will be over for this specific item by the time anyone views it, look up the seller hid4u. I chose the 6000K version as anything higher is pointless, and this particular seller because he's based in L.A.

I've put pictures of my car that'll be modified on a post before this.

I get the 4300k bulbs they put out the most light.

BajaCowboy Tue Dec 11, 2007 10:57 pm

Thinking back I probably should have gotten either the 4 or 5k series lights. oh well, I still look forward to the increased lighting.

one thing to note is that the High beam goes back to Halogen, this is a major let down if you are using them for highway driving.

I finally got two of my lights converted to HID the other weekend. And oh boy are they nice. I just need to find a way to lock out moisture from the light housing. I converted a pair of cheap walmart 6" off road lights. There's noticable difference between those and the more expensive brands. It offers a nice clear lens and an ok focal point for the beam. Silly me didn't bring my camera yesterday while we were up in the snow, so I'll have to get a couple shots comparing my two hids to my friends two 100-watt halogens.
All in all, as soon as I can I'll be converting at least 3 more pairs of lights to hid.

Hello I have been thinking of upgrading my headlights to the HID I saw the post about the ebay seller HID4U .....this is were iI will buy them any of you guys had any problems so far? I currently have sealed beam hi/low bulbs
Thanks
Bob

I ended up putting the two lights I converted on the roof rack of my 4runner. It's only a single beam off road light, but it's much much brighter then the old 100W Halogen I replaced. I've had no problems thusfar except for moisture getting trapped inside the glass distorting the beam. I'm thinking of getting a few more kits to convert the rest of my lights when my financial aid check arrives. If you get something with High/Low let me know how you like it. I hate the normal lights on the front of my baja, the low beams are about as brite as a candle.

I bot those HID's from Kragen couple weeks back before I seen this forum on HID lights. got a good deal but after seeing this this topic I'm thinking about taking them back and doing the convertion.
I tried to find those lights at auotzone, but they are not available any more.
so my question is to the guy that already did the convertion what lights out there that would work the best to do the convetion.

BajaCowboy Thu Jan 24, 2008 9:35 pm

The lights I used I bought from walmart. I do have a pair of KC brand lights but I've found for this application the Walmart (Rally brand) lights worked better. The KC brand, and others I'm sure, use a wire clip to hold in the H3 bulb. The Rally brand lights, at least the group I have, use a simple small screw and bent tab to hold in the bulb.
The Xenon bulbs that are used in the conversion have more material to them that get in the way of the clip style holder. With some creativity you can modify it to work, however the style utilizing the screw requires only that the metal tab be bent up ever so slightly to slip in the flange on the bulb. Hope this helps a little. I'm still waiting on my butt to get off the couch and stop doing homework so I can get some pictures of everything.
