Hello all, I am trying to get a straight answer on this question and have yet to find one. I am looking at a set of 14" x 5" American Racing Spectre Wheels getting various answers for the "correct" tire sizes from shops around my area. I know that you can mount various size tires on the same wheel but what is the medium or normal size for this wheel?

I am trying to maintain a more or less original outside diameter for speedometer purposes. The answers so far range from 195/60 14 to 215/90 14. Thanks very much in advance!!!

a 215x90? you mean 215x60?

Well, actually I was quoted "90" which probably would be the major factor in my confusion. I have been on the Miata wheel & tire size calculator which does a great job for the height, but I need to find a starting width for the tire in question.

the 195 is plenty wide enough for a 5" wheel. just get a tire with the diameter you need in that width. ie 195-60-14 all the way up to a 19570-14. with a 65 series tire in between. i think the 215 is a tad too wide

Is there anyone else that is running this combination; a I.R.S. Ghia with 14"x 6" rims. I concerned about rubbing issues in general...

The car is original height with factory shocks so I would assume that there is enough wiggle room to use a half inch wider wheel.

But assuming...

If you have a Ghia, your wheel/tire choices are very limited if you want to go larger than stock. The most critical aspect of wheel selection will be the offset. On a Ghia, you want as much offset towards the inner side of the fenders. A 'deep dish' wheel showing the dish outwards will not work unless you do a tremendous amount of mods to the fenders, at least in the rears. The fronts, you can narrow the beam, but the rears, you would have to narrow the torsion bars and reset the trailing arms inwards.

Do a search here (Custom Wheel/Tire) for Ghia. You will find a lot of information.

Take care,

BTW, I am running original 914 Fuchs and 195/60/15 all around. They are similar to the height of the original 165r/15.

It turns out that the Spectre's have 4 inch back spacing... is this enough to run a 175 or 185 tire without rubbing issues. My car currently has Mangle repops and the backspacing leads to less that a fingers width. I assume that the original tires on these were 5.5" wide, right? With a 5 inch wheel it seems like I ought to be okay...
