Any up date on doing this modification?
I want to go to an 034 (SVDA) distributor, but i'd prefer to try one before buying new, hoping to pick up a used one first.
Until then i'll put up with the hesitation and occasional stalling, using the 34 pict 3 and 009 combo the previous owner of the enging installed (same guy that had removed the thermostat and flaps!).

You can certainly try to fake out a 009 by dumping excess fuel in the engine. Many have done it over the years and it sort of works, just not well.
The real fix is to use a distributor (like a SVDA or 034) designed to work with the 34PICT3 carb, not against it. |

why would anyone use a distributor that hurt your MPG, by requiring that you add more fuel to allow it to run ok? IOW, if I told you that you could run a distributor that used less fuel, would you? So why run one that you have to throw gas at to run properly?
The 009 is a POS. It requires more fuel, which hurts MPG and lowers engine life by washing off the oil from your cylinders as a side effect. SVDA's are load sensing distributors, giving you the best of everything.
