Sorry guys,
Alot of you know me personally, heard of me, and have seen my early '62 VW 1500, original, unmolested, and NEVER HIT Notch.....well after 45 years, my Notchback was hit by another car. I am so distraught and can't even think straight, I am so fucking pissed off.

This guy came out of a parking lot, at a 45 degree angle pointing at me, crossed the passenger lane, and hit me as I was driving in the no.1 lane. Passenger side to passenger side impact. I guess he thought that he was going to drive over the 8 inch high and 6 foot wide island that separates east bound lanes from the west bound lanes...I slammed on my brakes but it was too late. And this asshat said it was my fault, that I pulled in front of him, I wanted to snap his neck.

After the exchange of insurance info, he bailed. I had to get towed as my front passenger quarter panel and bumber is in the wheel well.

No police report, although I called 911, in California, they don't respond to non-injury accidents, nice....and nobody even cared to stop, even though the lane he transversed to get to mine was stopped with traffic and alot of people saw.

Next time instead of driving off the road, I'll just sit there. Fuck it.

NO WAY!!! DAMN, that Sucks!!! Post pics- Let's see how bad it is.

Do yourself a favor and file an accident report wit hthe CHP right NOW. Also, call his insurance NOW. The sooner you this going the better.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I just had the same thing happen last week to my square.

vwjunkie53 Wed Dec 12, 2007 9:27 pm

Man on man, I know that sick to your stomach feeling... No one cares because its "just an old volkswagen" I would really try and get a police report, especially if the asshole is going to try and say you pulled out in front of him. Too bad you don't have any witnesses. My Bug got plowed about 2 weeks after I started driving it when I was 16. ( I had worked on it over a year to get it on the road, it was just painted too...) I know how much it sucks. Post up some pics so we can bash the asshole that hit you some more!

Dave, if you need extra hands, let me know. You helped me, so just offering. My condolences, and I hope everything gets straightened out.

vwjunkie53 Wed Dec 12, 2007 9:33 pm

ya if you weren't about 1800 miles away I would offer to come over and help put her back together... One thing is for sure, you wont find a more supportive community of auto enthusiasts than VW folks!!!!

Typ311Dave Wed Dec 12, 2007 11:03 pm

I wish I could say I'm alright, I am physically, but I'm a bit numb....I'm looking at my car that I have adored and loved since 1993, which in its 45 year existance had nothing worse than a door ding, get's smacked in the front end by an asshole who said it was my fault for pulling in front of him, even though I happened to be MOVING in traffic and he was pulling out of a parking lot!

As far as the police goes, and I called 911 twice, in Kalifornia they don't respond to non-injury accidents, as long as you exchange information, and nobody is injured and there is no road hazard, they will not come out. So after talking with Rob tonight, he suggested I call CHP, so I did, and they said the same thing basically, although I have 10 days to walk in to an office to file a report. And I will be doing that tomorrow, and I'll be sure to put down the fact that when I asked the guy for his drivers license, he got in his car and booked.

He had a Disabled Person plate too, but he seemed to walk just fine...yeah I got the license plate. I'm taking this guy to the cleaners.

If this happens to anyone, especially in the state of Kalifornia, and you want the cops to come out, I guess you should tell a lie, sorry fib, and say you are experiencing neck and back pain, then maybe you'll get some service from the very people we pay to provide that service.

At least when I was 19, 20 years ago, when I got into my first and last (before this) accident, I had the balls to tell the cops it was my fault, because it was! This guy didn't even have the balls to say it was his fault.

Again, appreciate everybody's thoughtfulness. If anyone knows a real good metal guy, who can perform majic, I'd appreciate the info, it can and will be repaired.

so sad to hear about your loss dave, that's truly horrible, I hope this guy gets the justice that's coming to him. If you need me to egg his house, LA is a short 2 hours away!

my65rhd Wed Dec 12, 2007 11:39 pm

Man I am so sorry to hear that. I worry about driving my car each and every day especially now around the holidays. I am constantly watching my rear view and my eyes are always everywhere..almost being paranoid...then you get that jerk (to put it mildly) that does that type of crap. I could not imagine someone hitting my car.. I feel sick for ya man..big time... Kyle

 What a scumbag!! I just had a similar experience on my motorcycle,
slime turned out of the center lane on a three lane road in font of me , I hit him doing about 45...F*&%ing cops never showed even for an injury accident!! I got taken away in an ambulance & no one got his info & he left after about 30 min...so I'm out about 12K.

Enough about me, I hope you really stick it to him, slime like this really need to taught a lesson!

Exactly. Hopefully you get some money, but whatever they give won't repace or undo the damage. :(
