What's the deal with Westys, Mexican blankets and Asian or Asian/American wives? Are we really in a cult & just don't know it?? Separated at birth?? It's all too creepy.

It is all caused by a retro virus, we all had special DNA implanted, something to do with a close encounter. So we are all drawn to the grail of the Vanagon. Anybody model a Vanagon out of mashed potatoes?

OK. I'll have to google "wubby" but.....

Tried up top. Not really my thing.

Downstairs for me, but the lump in the back means using 2 Thermarests (Base Camps) and 2 memory foam mattresses. A comforter on top of foam and sleeping bag works fine.

Making the bed takes more time, but in some strange way, knowing that I'm resting my head over that Jetta engine I slaved over to install, makes it all worthwhile!

I resurrected this because I wanted to hear about sleeping bag(s) versus sheets n blankets.

I like sheets and blankets one of which is an opened sleeping bag. I just like the feel of sheets. Because I travel solo with dog I leave my bed made up all day with a colorful topper on it!!!!!

What sayest thou?

This might be a little OT, and a silly question. But with me living on a different continent and all; whats a mexican blanket?

Back to the topic;
I havent slept in my car yet, just tested it.
Love the size of the full width bed. had 2/3 width in my RIP syncro. This bed is actually bigger than the
one in my bedroom at home.
But the padding could be a little bit better
so Im getting a madress topper which should do the trick:

Underneath the parts is a very cheap Mexican blanket, probably made in China but was bought by me in Cozumel. I bought a really nice one for me that my dog uses when we go camping, and we came home with a suitcase full of the $5.00 blankets for gifts for friends.

Mexican blankets with some color coordinated groovy blankets tossed over the upright seat. At night, mex stashed away, nice quality, thread count sheets
over mem foam and self inflating mattress. I top with either beautiful quilts/duvets or those super nice star blankets.
The BED is THE THING!

I have both because I like options and sometimes a sleeping bag makes sense and sometimes sheets/blankets/comforter do
Sleeping bag = 2 Coleman '3 season' bags always zipped together... easy, convenient and always ready
Sheets/etc = 400 count Egyptian cotton sheets, matching blanket and comforter... 'cuz sometimes it's the 'little luxuries' that mean the most

Mexican blanket all the way!! Hahah, I think they came standard issue between 1960 and 1990.

I use a fitted sheet on the matress and a King size extra firm pillow with a pillow case .On top of all that is a simple double sleeping bag.Think its a Coleman but not sure..its flannel on the inside and quite toasty "in the cool of the evening when everything is gettin kinda groovy".

Simba'sWestyWings Wed Feb 24, 2010 6:52 pm

giggle giggle. I'm chuckling because so many get "all toasty". I plain old get hot and need to stick a leg out once I've warmed the bed up, plus have a habit of jamming zippers

Rubber Tramp Wed Feb 24, 2010 7:06 pm

 at the mexican blanket thing going on here!

I have a mexican blanket to put on top of my comforter for extra warmth, mexican blanket as a rug, and a dash cover made from a mexican blanket  ahhhhh gotta love 'em

Vanagonner Wed Feb 24, 2010 7:19 pm

I can see I will have to bow to peer pressure now, and go get a Mexican blanket at a yard sale this summer. ;)
Until then, my westy bed is stock factory bed folded out-
Vintage flannel sleeping bag with steel zipper and geese printed on it-
Down pillow- sleep like a rock.

They can be found on the Internet for less than $15...of course, unless you enjoy the hunt!

Here's one for $5.99...kind of on the small size 52x72". Many more can be found in much larger sizes.
