What do you mean by work right? That's a pretty broad question. What exactly is wrong with yours?

like when you lift to close. one hinge will release the other won't then the person tries to close the hood. but one side locks now you may have a kinked, twisted or bent hood. i have seen places that repair them, but rather expensive. i just wonder what they do to them that i could do. my labor is not very much thanks

First they have to be clean and working freely. The little star things can not be hanging up. If they are nice and free and lubed and still don't work they may need repair. The repair is not that simple. But, the usual case is they are not working freely.

Do you mean that they are out of phase? Like when you try to shut it, one side unlatched but the other doesn't, lift the hood and they switch? If thats the case, just unbolt one side, cycle it down and up once, and bolt it back on.

If they are out of cycle, you can flip them with your fingers. No need to unbolt (that's asking for trouble!) But I bet they gunked up and need cleaning / lubing....
