alright so here we go again, after all these times of trying to get an oval and deals falling through, i finally got my hands on an oval window, and a nice one at that!
So here's how the story goes.
I'm in San Rafael at our company's main office for the christmas party, i'm never in san rafael since i work at a job site in healdsburg so i hardly know anyone there. so i'm meeting a few of the workers tehre and shootin the shit with them, they all know that i'm into volkswagens, my dad is one of the head guys for the company so he tells them alot about me. anyways, one of the guys says that his brother in Fairfax, CA, about 20 minutes away has this "cherry 57 oval with a palm tree growing in between the body and the bumper" and that he wanted 2200 for the car. i was thinking to myself "alright this car has to be an absolute pile" well for shits me and my dad decided to go check it out anyways, here's what we see.
that palm tree branch is there god knows how, but it was only intertwined with teh electrical in the fenderwell, was able to be pulled out easily.
so i meet the owner of the car, and he tells me how he has owned this bug since 1971, bought it off a fireman who probably bought it from the original owner, he just stopped driving the car about 6 or 7 years ago because he needed another bigger car other than his wife's car for their family. the car has only been repainted once with Emeron paint that is pretty damn close to its original paint interior. the guy put alot of money into repairs on the car and just put alot of money into the car before it sat.
he originally was planning to give the car to one of his kids but none of them are interested in it too much and he wanted it to go to someone that will put it back on the road, so he sold me the car for a good deal.
the interiors been redone, but he said its pretty much been redone to stock. the paint on the inside is stock btw.
motor he had replaced or made (he couldn't remember) to a 1500
plans for this car include a 4" narrowed beam, drop spindles, a click or 2 in the rear, swan neck mirrors, new battery pan (rotted) and redo the carpeting, and replace the steeringwheel with a batwing |
