hi all, was taking a look at a 914 for sale online and they stated that it has "body sag". i've only seen 2 914s in my life, and both of them had the same problem. if the body is in fair shape, what is the best route to repair this? welding in some sort of aftermarket frame rails? somewhat interested in getting into the porshe scene, any advice would be appreciated. thanks, Dan.

914club.com is the oldest 914 club

the longs rust out and there is several methods for replacing the rusting metal. The Engman kit or Brad Mayers kit are for strenghtening the longs after rust repairs.

In general, if the car is sagging because of deteriorated "longs" there are other areas that have gone soft as well. Places where you can see like the battery mount area (Hell Hole) and other between bulkheads where you'll never see.

Current prices for the bits and pieces, rubber and gaskets, to restore a 914 are keeping pace with those prices for 356 and 911 cars. The 914 is no longer much of a cheap alternative.

Like always, buy the best that you can afford, and don't throw good money after bad trying to restore a rusted out example. Eyes wide open!

Of course, that said . . . Ive owned four terrible cars, fixed 'em all just enought to keep them on the road, and enjoyed the CRAP out of them all to the degree that I have yet another awful example waiting to be put on the road next year!

They're wonderful little cars, if yours sags just weld in two tubes on a diagonal, one on each side, and go have FUN ! ! !
