im lookin at 72 914 engine is totaly dissambled has 2 burnt exhaust valves-45000 miles can the average mechanicaly skilled person rebiuld one themselves i cant afford to pay anyone-what caused this- is alignbore necassary any info would be helpfull

The simple answer is yes, with help, you should be able to rebuild your engine. However, if you want to make changes for 'more power', then, you might need more help. The people on these other sites that I gave you are strictly Type 4 engines and can answer all your questions. Just be sure to use the search before asking questions that might be answered before a dozen times already :wink: !!!

The hardest parts to find are new domed 90mm pistons if you have those. Rings are around.

Heads should be rebuilt by len at HoffmanAutoMachine in Georgia or Adrian at Headflowmasters in Cali.
Both do the valve seat magic so the heads are better than new.

Burnt valves are caused by misadjustment (too tight!)
No, that case shouldn't need alignboring! and with only 45k on it not much else other than cleaning and new gaskets everywhere. Bearings should be good.
