Currently have porsche 2.0liter rims on my 66 ghia. The fronts have
the 135 and the rears have 165 tires. My front end is lowered with 2-1/2
ball joints, stock width. I have very minor rubbing issues. On the rears
I have t-3 brakes which are wider than the stock drum brakes. I can't
get my pinky finger in between the fender and the tire. I believe the
backset on the 2.0 liter rims is 40mm.
Can anyone tell me if the 1/2" wider boxster rims(if I use 6" on all 4
corners) would work :?: Would love to use the 6" on the front and the
7" on the rear, but I'm pretty sure that won't work. Also what
size tire would I need to use ?
16" boxster rims
6 x 16 with 50mm offset
7 x 16 with 40mm offset
According to this web sit,
http://marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html
the 6" boxster rim would sit closer to the center
of the car by 4mm less than the 2.0liter rims. So if I'm figuring this
right I should have enough room to run 16" x 6" boxster rims on all
4 corners?
If that will work how do I figure what size tires will work :?: The whole
purpose that I'm wanting to do this, is to run a wider tire on the front
and the rear. |

My car is irs so I dont know. What I do know is a british guy on germanlook.com has 6" all around on a lowlight ghia so it will work
with 205-55-16 or 205-50-16
My car has 7" rears with 205-50-16 and fits fine. All I did was countersink the sprind plate bolt that comes close to the tire
with a countersunk allen bolt and trimmed the snubber a little.
I have 6" front with 195-50-16 and removed my dropped spindles to avoid rubbing with stock width beam. I have beam adjusters to dial it
down a little. Disk brake dust cover with speedo hole was the only problem. In the end I just made a new hole in the porsche cap and left the vw cap off. I greased the porsche cap so dust will stay out. Works fine and is hardly noticeable.
My fronts rubbed on the sway bar clamps so I removed the sway bar and cant notice a difference. If I were keeping the car
and did notice a difference a white line sway bar should fit fine.
Again my car is Irs so I cannot say for sure. With swing axel short axels should work.

Just found the best wheel/tire comparision calculator on the net,
check it out. You can change everything from et to tire sizes to compare
to your existing rim/tire.
