hello all...i have read just about every post regarding
fuchs wheels...i'm just about crosseyed at this point and
i still don't really have an answer...
i'm interested in rolling some fuchs...i like the staggered
look with a good amount of lip on the rear...i do NOT like
the 4.5 fuchs with spokes sticking out past the rim...
i currently run stock rear axles and a disc brake setup on
the front...i'm not interested in changing to shortened axles
on the rear...i plan to redrill the front rotors and the rear
drums, so there will be no adapters to deal with...
what combination of fuchs rims can i run without modification
to the car to get a staggered look with a deep dish on the rear?
thanks for your help... |

| Why don't you tell us a bit about your car. Year, model, IRS, swing? |

the car is a 1965 model...i bought it midway through a
full show car quality restoration process and have been
trying to finish the car up in order to have it ready for
spring...
the car is swingaxle, but the previous owner set the car
up as 4 lug due to the fact that the cb performance front
disc brake kit was only available in 4 lug when he was
completing the pan...i haven't been real happy with the
4x130 wheel options currently on the market--seems things
haven't changed much since my last beetle project back
in the mid 80's--they've just gotten more expensive...
the car will primarily be for show with a little bit of weekend
cruise-in activity every once in a while...it's obviously not
a daily driver, so i was really wanting to do something nice
for the rims... |

A 5.5x15 early Fuchs should fit the front. 6s may fit too. I don't know what the track would be of a K&L beam with Karmann Ghia 4 lug rotors since VW never made any cars like that.
If your car uses the original 65 short axle swing, 6s will fit comfortably. In fact, a spacer will provide better clearance with the spring plate and better close the gap between the tire and fender. Both early deep 6s and late 6s fit the same since they both have the same offset.
Late 7s will fit with ease. Their extra inch is all on the outside.
I have seen late 8x15s fit early swing axle cars, but not with a big tire. My bet is that a 205/60/15 will be the tire that works. The 8 gets you the deep look you want.
You can substitute 16s on the rear if you want, both 7 and 8 by 16s have the same offset as the 15s. However, 8x16s are about 4 times the price as 8x15s.
If you can determine the track on the front, a late 6x15 and some 8x15s would be a great combo. |
