Right then I got another addition to the fleet its a 1974 1303S
It rusty, crusty, scruffy but we love it. Its Taxed till may, MOTd till November. Its going to be used & I'm going to do a running restoration on it keeping it on the road as much as I can.
Amy will be having it in March when she's 17 to learn to drive in so I got to make sure its safe cos an MOT don't mean much unfortunatly. Underseal hides a lot of sins. If anyone has 1303 panels that they want to sell PM me & I'll buy them.
The car is mechanically good & drives sweet, pulls well & gear changes brakeing etc. are good. I will in time be overhauling & replacing everything. & its got a CD player player player player...... but I don't want to talk about it anymore.
Here are some pics:-

Haven't decided how to do it yet, its staying orange, it will get lowered, its keeping bumpers, standard lights front & back. the rest I'll decide as I go along. It will have bigger & better brakes & some nice wheels too.
Look how excited Amy looks in her new car.
I got to reduce the fleet too so the Porsche 924S is going & so is the Golf Mk2 driver. |

I'll trade you a '74 Standard for your 924. :D
Nice find. Mine used to be orange until the PO painted it blue. I can't decide if I'm going to keep it blue or go back to the original orange. |
a really good guide to some stuff in there, i will have to remember this for when i get around to re-doing my 1303 tinware and check the engine over
Cheers M8, I have a small update.
All the tinware has now been shot blasted & primered & when I collect them from Bennetts I'll post some pics.
Also I dropped the engine block & bits up to Swansea Auto for cleaning & checking;
The case is good so it will get a thorough clean in his special bath,
The barells & pistons are good just need a clean & new rings,
The cam shaft & gear are good just need a good clean,
The crankshaft is kippered & so is one con rod all the big ends are gone so its scrap.:(
Good news is I bought a good crank of Shavenone from Bridgend & a new pair of twin port heads as one of mine is cracked.
Tuesday morning I'll drop off these parts ready for cleaning, checking over, re-grinding & balanceing:-

...looks just like my daughter, Sophie :D She drives around in an orange one too, a 1975 Jeans Beetle. She loves it, and is really proud! People stop her all the time to give her credit for the car!
My other daughter, now 16, expects to have one as well. Looking for a 1303 Superbeetle for her - a little safer.
Keep posting pictures! |
