I was in Beijing in 2006. Didn't see one VW...
This pic looks like it was taken in front of a hospital we visited. Not by choice though.

It looks like it was sold there when it was new. The M-plate has destination code HG, which stands for Hong Kong. Normally the steering wheel would have been on the right for a Hong Kong bus I think. But this one has it on the left. So may be it came to Beijing via the harbour of Hong Kong.
So here is the M-plate, and it's translation :D :
If I read it right then this is what is written on the plate in the picture:

so its an original Hong KOng bus!!!
24 a delux, probably ment for carrying some passengers.
it ended up in mainland china, though. HOW?
as we all know its not legal to import vehicles older than 10 years into china, unless they are already there by now.
This makes this bus the only known bay window in CHina Republic,
It has no tags, and it stands still,
I wonder whos it is in deed,
It be cool to "rent" this bus, to have a cruise in mainland |

| It's amazing to have one in Beijing. T2 is also extremely rare in Hong Kong! We have some old bugs though. |

on account of some reason of historical for we all know(as Cold War :( ) .Until pre-1980s, most of “legal”import car obliged to pass by Hong kong :cry:

Yep,VW santana(quantum/passat) has become a Legend in China,Maybe,the "Kafer" live in China even.
obviously,It ugly,could not get high-rating in crash-test current,However, Mid-size,Low price(about 8K$) something else.still arrest many people buy it.
BTW:JP cars are fully attacking in China markets recently years. |
