hey yall, well im excited about getting my bus up and running to go to some shows this spring (i hope i finish it by then), so i figured i would start a post on the progress. the story is, that it was ordered for a funeral home in black to transport things, yes including flowers. but my idea is to not touch it much, jus lower it with all new drive train, suspension, and brakes. ill be posting pictures and id like to hear your comments and advice. so far i got most of the main parts to complete it. CB beam, dropped spindles, 944 front and rear brakes, rebuilt trany, and a complete 2109 motor that i need to build and a few accessories like, bus trip speedo, coat hooks, long spoon latches, berg locker with a signature handle, wolfgang safaries, wood slat roof rack and a set of early fuch and cosmics.
so heres the paper i found in it from the orignal owner.

so far iv taken off all the tint and rebuilt the ragtop.

theres also a few rust issues on the roof i need to take care of, you can see in this picture.

That's a pretty cool Bus if it really did come from the factory solid black.

so i jus built the beam, its a cb 2 inch narrowed and adjustable beam. i narrowed it to 4.75 inches and i shortend/raised the center pin.

and heres the spindles, i know when running dropped/flipped spindles you remove a lot of the spacers and seals from the linkpins but i didnt feel safe running the trailing are flat out aginst the link pin shims. so i modified the parts to fit.

you only have to cut the top ones like this, the bottom ones will fit with no mods

i finished clearancing the case for the stroker crank, tapped it for full flow and tapped and plugged all the oil galleys, ill post pics soon.

Why not get a pair of linkpin seals to keep the dirt out?

vw62rag Fri Jan 18, 2008 5:52 pm

i did, i got the complete link pin kit, the caps, and the larger seals wont fit, i even thought about using a large O ring but there is jus no way unless they were machined. i wish they did fit. but my main concern was the trailing arm chewing up the shims, and thats fixed.

Just sell the damn thing to me bro!

I'll haul it out here where it is nice and warm and make it all pretty.

Then you can come out for the show season and crash on my couch and flip through my books, than you can cruise it to the show and go check out the old neighborhood...

(Thanks for the use of couch that night by the way...)

Seriously though...I want that Bus (and you can keep all that goofy lowering stuff  )

Are you going to the Mo-Kan show in Lawrence this coming May? He's hoping to have it ready by then.

Rad-Ride Sun Jan 20, 2008 10:24 pm

Yes I'll be there if all goes well. It will be my first time at the Mo-Kan show, is it a decent size show?
