i need new heads for my 73westy, 1700cc, i was told to always buy NEW heads and not re-built heads, then i got word from a guy who builds and sells high performance type 4 motors to never use NEW heads,
any recomendations on where to get a good set of re-built heads or possibly nos heads for a decent price???
thanks for any ideas

I just bought a set from headflow masters in California. They were not real fast but they were the ones featured in the VW mag. They are supposed to install the valve seats so that they will not "drop" as easy. I don't have the number handy, but they do advertise in VW trends or Hot VW's (I can't remember which)

I mean fast in delivery, not in speed of motor...sorry!

aircooled.net has new heads for sale but they are kind of pricey. VW heads MUST be rebuilt by a seriously good shop with lots of VW experience. These are not like other heads. Try NW Connecting Rod in Seattle or Boston Bob in Massachusetts. Also Jake Raby in Georgia. These aren't the only places that do good work; just some that I've heard do top-notch work. You might also look at Bus Depot. I think they list heads in their online catalog, I think done by AVP.
