I know that there were over 300 different ads in Life/Look/Post.
(I have thumbed through each and every issue of Life that was published.)
And then there were the Bus/Truck ads in the specialty and trade magazines.
I have hundreds ( maybe thousands) of duplicates. The whole deal is out of control. :oops:

What are these usually worth? I have four original Karmann Ghia ads that I want to sell. I bought them about 15 years ago at a bug show.

It can be totally random but I see them on eBay all the time if you want to search there. I haven't paid attention to what ones sell as they are always around $10 each + shipping, which is too much for me.

I sell them at VW swap meets in the $6-$8 range with very unusual ads going for a bit more. I discount for multiple purchases.

sometimes I send links for auctions in Europe to Roy and we exchanged already some advertisements. :roll:

Indeed a few ads are missing in his collection ... :wink:

But I only collect all things around Karmann Ghia. :D

That Lowe's ad was free advertising for Volkswagen. You have to think something was coordinated behind the scenes, because anytime you find a non-VW VW ad in a magazine, there's usually not a real VW ad.

I also have been collecting since I was a kid, so much so that I stopped collecting because I have them all. I also have duplicates. Mine are priced aroundf $3 to $5 each. PM me if there's anything you're looking for.

I was looking through some early 60's Life magazines tonight in my cousin's garage after raiding the turkey and pumpkin pie..... ran across a few VW ads....

Does anybody know the date and publication of the first VW ad in the US?

I didn't see it listed but I've seen A add in A mid 60s life mag that had A foldout page of A bus .If I remember correctly it was A 21 window.

The first VW ad anywhere or in Life magazine?

For anywhere:
It's got to be early 50s at least.

I know there are a ton of late 50s ads.
