My old '71 needs it's gas cap overhauled.
(yeah, right) It needs a new gasket and whatever the black rubber inside (that you cannot get to).

Now I know that this gas cap is 'special'.
It is very different than what I had on my `70 bus, and back when California still had smog checks that was one of the things that they inspected.

So now what? Is this NLA? Or do I put on whatever gas cap that they used in Europe for 1971-> ? Or am I SOL?

I'm tired of fuel leaking out when I have filled the tank and then take a twisty road.

Sorry folks, found the answer after looking through all the obvious places (BusDepot, JustKampers, BustedVW) and then found it for only $16.50 at Wolfsburg West (which I have always thought of as a vintage-parts-type place). There is a specific 1971-only gas cap!
