| Does anyone know what the #s mean on the side of my swing axle case the #s read 113 301 103 with the #12 stamped above it |

| That is the part number of the empty trans case. |

| how can i tell what year the trans axle is? How do you know if it 6 or 12 volt? How do you tell if it is short or long axle? |

Look for a number on the bottom of the trans (7 digits i think?).
How do you know if it 6 or 12 volt?
Read the starter. Trannies aren't 6 or 12 volt, starters are. |

| I will look there I was just curious after talking to several companies about using my swingaxle as a core for a replacement all of them want to know if its a 6 or 12 volt transaxle. |

They probably want to know that because there were only two years of 12 volt transaxles (in USA anyway), '67 and '68. These tend to be more sought after because of the flywheel clearance, wide axles, and taller gear ratio. They also have a cool back-up light switch.
If you are a tranny rebuilder, you want these as cores. :wink: |

| I am trying to find a short axle tranny... being a type 3 guy I have no clue what to look for, can I at least get some help with what years they were in and if there are any ways to tell if they are a short axle just by looking at one? is it the distance between the springplate flange and the bearing cap? or is it the shock mounts on the axle tubes are straight instead of at an angle? |
