the curly numbers came first same as a split bug
then the squared type which matches the speedo

these pics are from eurobox duncan

the second clock is from my 53 and when i got that clock, it was a match set with a 53 dated speedo. im pretty positive the clock was also dated 53. it is a 53 only set .

and thats my speedo you just pictured ,thanks

Beginners :?: :!:

Early Dash's seem to have been the White Block style speedo (lets call this Style B), mixed with the Early Font clock (Style A)

The 15w DLX (Oct 1951):

The Hornbecker DLX (Feb 52):

Hornbecker's has the Early Font style clock (Style A), so the speedo/clock face styles didn't match until the demise of the split window beetle?
ie until the clock was BD DLX only?

(these are bus build dates, not speedo/clock date stamps)

20-053503 (June 53 - still White Block & Early Font)

20-056313 (July 53 - both White Block)

20-074455 (Feb 54 - Both Modern Font)

OK, so the equipment may have been swapped about - but this looks to be the pattern

sep 54 has correct clock an speedo

this is the earliest of this style clock
9 /53

so when did the speedo's change :?:

BeaterBarndoor Tue Jan 22, 2008 7:58 am

my 53 standard is early part or 11/53(20-065647) and it had its original mph "backwards" speedo in it.

I agree with RockStocks chart, My april 1953 has the early split style clock, with a 29 part number and seems to be appropriately date stamped to the car. I think it was a mid year 53 change, when they ran out the old clocks on the shelves.

Beginner

I have a lame excuse in that the speedo in an early bus is the block type and i thought the clock would be the same
After seeing that one sell at Bad Camberg, i'm just glad i have the right clock for my bus

Chris, you are the font of all (font) knowledge.

I'll check to see if the clocks on the 51 DLX are date stamped when I go to the garage tomorrow.

Rich.

Gotcha!

Seen better days....& as for clock (54/55, bd dlx only), it's missing its hands & glass. But it works, & should shape up. Dated 6/54, part no. 241 857 251. Cheers

It seems that deluxe owners are far more interested in having every single correct part before they'll even entertain the idea of driving their bus.......
