Longtime lurker and occasional poster here. This place has been invaluable to me so far and I just wanted to post a few pictures from when I pulled the body off the pan yesterday. My goal is to have it done by April 2009 when I get married so we can drive away in it after the ceremony. (Because my fiance is awesome like that.) Perhaps a little ambitious but I'm hopeful.
And if anyone's interested in the dolly let me know. I built it based on ideas from several people on here and I think it turned out very well.
Sitting on the floor after being separated from the pan.
The pan.
On the dolly.
Another view of it on the dolly.
Back in the garage next to my other '73 Super. Excuse the mess. |

Can you describe how you made the dolly, please? |

I believe ya got a 74 there dude. Cause if I'm not mistaken 74 and up supers had the rounded windshield. 73's had the flat one.
Also she looks like a good start! And my condolences on the marriage thing.
Peace,

The legs are made out of 4x4's that are 19 inches tall. The rest of it is 2x4's except for the pieces across the top that the heater channels sit on. Those are 2x6's. It's 6 feet long and 6.5 feet wide. Heightwise it has about 30 inches of clearance with an overall height of 34 inches. With the body of the Bug being 48 inches tall I had to design it so that it would fit inside my garage door. Because those wheels wouldn't fit directly on the bottom of the 4x4's I had to cut pieces of plywood for those to bolt onto and then attach to the frame of the dolly. It still needs further bracing of the legs to the frame as moving it is causing stress on the legs when it's moved with the Bug on it. I'm going to try to set up a page in the next couple days of more detail of how I built it. I'll let you know when I do.

Yea what the other poster said. And '73 and '74 Super Beetles are practically identical in every way. I've owned this car for over 10 years so I'm certain of it's details. :)
