Has anyone had experience with buying an engine from anywere that you would recommend?
I'm in the process of checking out different companies such as GEX, strictly vw, and stictly foreign. Any suggestions thanks for your time and help!

That's kind of a dicey subject on here as of late... I don't think most people who have been around long enough have much faith in the ABC XYZ and now MUFFCO rebuilds...( read some other threads on here!) Not that EVERY one they build is a pile of crap but.... I have torn down easily between 50 and 100 of these "rebuilts"( mostly type 1's) in the last 15+ years and can tell you that most of the parts are usually reground to the max( cranks cams and lifters...) the only new parts might have been bearings and pistions and cylinders and exhaust valves... they were built on cases that were machined (align bored) to the max... not telling how many times the heads have been rebuilt and welded up (cracks ect) and on and on...
IMHO a air cooled mechanic who is honest and knows what he is doing will build you a better engine every time.... If you can find out about a local mechanic or shop and check them out by word of mouth if possible through other Vw owners in your area...
( what area are you in anyway???)
The late model bus engines are not cheap to have rebuilt right, so you should do your homework before plunking down the bucks... Good luck.....

I have an ATK engine and it has worked well for 60,000 miles so far. Heard bad things about GEX.
