What style is correct for the BD?
Same for all years?
Same as the beetles?
where should it be located on the dash?
This is the only pic i could find on a quick search. Is it original? for some reason i thought they were in the middle of the dash. Mirror position of the toggle switch?

52 and 53 in the deluxe clocks thread have the same split beetle style on the starter button side. |

| Both of the photos show the electrical outlet for the lighter centered just above the fuse boxes. The one on the top of the dash is probably a later add. |

The socket is factory, the cigarette lighter is just one of many accessories that can be plugged in. Personally I think it is a bad spot to put a lighter. If you push the button on the lighter the red hot coils are right next to the starter button.
The VW part number and description of the socket are 937 501, "Socket - Inspection Lamp". |

There are virtually endless accessories that can be plugged into that socket. Here are a few of the more popular ones:
Suction cup spotlight
Dash mounted fan
Map light
Coffee maker
I have a nice old trouble light that has a 20' cord on it to make it all the way back to the engine bay. |
