This ok, its what I asked in a thread, if anything needs to be changed i will, I havent submitted the thread yet.
A friend of mine has a 64 Bug thats stock with the 5-205 pattern. He really likes the Carrera 996 wheels but doesnt know what size and width would work on his bug.Hes on a budget so if these are really pricie would you have any recomendations in the porsche pattern or 4-100 bolt.He wants 15,16 or 17's.Thanks guys.

Also to help you heres a link that helps me out to figure out what works.
http://www.wheelsmaster.com/rt_specs.jsp

just put your stock setup on the left an what you want on the right, it will tell you on the bottom what you will have.
Stock your et is 40, you got 15x4.5" rims.

those wheels are Porsche Cup 3 "Twisted" , im building a bug with that same wheels ( German Looker )
my rims are Replica italians , i recommend 17 X 7.5 et 52
you can get these new here ( u$s 229 each )
http://www.tirerack.com/ , ( search for porsche boxter 1999)

please take a look to this page , it was my inspiration , the you will se a bug like yours 1963 ( short swing axle ) , but the front beam is a ball joint one, yours is link pin,

http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/album95

im pasting Alanīs email

The wheels were repro 17x7.5 with ET52 - all the guards are stock - I had to narrow the ball joint beam 80mm (using cb performance discs and dropped spindles). With a standard beam the wheels fit under guards but had very limited turning circle. I therefore had to run the narrowed beam and 20mm spacers each side. The rear had swing axle (short axles) with cb performance discs and I had to run 35mm spacers to stop the wheels from hitting the spring plates. I think a different offset rim would have fitted better.

Hope this helps a little

A few things that might help you out:

I'm stuffing 17x7" all-around under my Link Pin, Short Axle '60 bug. It's tight. Very tight. They are New Beetle BRMs. 17x7" with 40mm offset. 205x40 front tires, 225x45 rear.

Front: 4" narrowed beam, dripped spindles. The beam is indexed for the dropped spindles, so I have the adjusters bottomed out for my desired ride height. (get one from georgeondstreet - they're beautiful and well-priced).

Rear: Stock. But I used 3/16" worth of spacer to clear the spring plates.

Disk brakes all around drilled to the 5x100mm bolt pattern.

If you're going big (wheels), do it right. You need disc brakes. I'm not being stuck up or anything. You need them. The wheel and tire combos for bigger wheels are heavy. Even the 17" Escra (wide 5x205) wheel distributer recommends using disc brakes with his wheels. Drum brakes can't hold up to the extra rotating mass. If you want to look cool, but be able to safely drive your car, you need disc brakes.

So, decide exactly which wheels you want, keeping the offset and width as your primary concerns. Then buy disc brakes with the required bolt patterns. Then buy the wheels.

Note - nearly all of the GermanLook.com cars run at least the standard disc brake kits. Many run 944/993/996 brakes, but those are pricey.

Sorry, forgot to mention:

Using a static (non- air bagged) suspension, this is the biggest set up I could fit. The biggest tires, the biggest wheels. I'm running the car very low, only a couple inches from the ground, and it's a driver built for very hard driving with curvy mountain roads in mind.

Everything fits under the stock body, with the only body modification being shaving down the rear body-to-shock mount brackets.

But honestly, the 17x7 with 205/40 front (4" narrowed beam) and 17x7 with 225/45 rear with 40mm offset is the biggest I can see fitting under the stock fenders, at a low height. The rear tires are a hair under rubbing both the inner fender and outer fender edge. The front tires do rub the inner fenders and outer fender lip at full lock (hardest possible turn angle). So I had to fab steering limiters to reduce the risk of damage to the body and tires.

Would I be able to run the 17x7 escra wheels on a stock suspension 67 bug temporarily until I figure out what suspension setup I want?

I plan on wider fenders so I am not too worried about the outside, just the inside. I haven't figured out if I want to run airbags or just lower it, so that is why I am asking.

if this is a daily driver then def bag it. I have 195/50s on 6 inch cookie cutters in the front and when I have a full tank of gas and a passenger they rub on the (stock) front fenders, also the rear is lowered two notches and my header srapes when goes into reletively flat driveways. If you can afford it then get bags so you can DROP it when you want to show it and raise it for speedbumps and driveways etc. Plus airbags have a way smoother ride. Plus its yet another thing to show off

So is the inner clearance is OK without a narrowed beam?
