Hey all,

I have a an '83 Kubvan that has the VW 1.6 D Diesel (non turbo) engine with a 3 speed transmission with the economy freewheel drive. The starter for the Kubvan has given up the ghost and so I am replacing it, however when I removed the starter I found that it was held on with two (2) 8.8 bolts. The starter has three (3) bolt holes. Where the starter mounts looks like it has three (3) holes but one is closed off. I can not tell if there is a bolt that has been snapped in there or not. So I need to know if the starter used with an automatic transmission is mounted using two (2) bolts or three(3). I don't want to put the starter back on with only 2 bolts if it is supposed to be held by three, and I also don't want to go at it with a drill and a screw extractor if it isn't actually a bolt with the head snapped off. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!
