Quote: 2. Under the front seat - ie any little feet on the cab seatbase? Any (painted area) sound deadening material? Rubber stops (on the painted area)?
Thanks
RS
Here's the next set of photos for reference:
No sound deadening on the front seat stands, no evidence of any...ie glue, etc. BTW that's not rust it's the dust from the OG horse hair padding :)
There appears to have been rubber stops (round stops based on paint discoloration around the 4 holes)

Hope this helps |

| That is one sweet/clean bus. Glad it went to someone who seems to care about it. |

More:
7. Rocker/Sill detail - both sides - any drain holes along the outer edge?
8. Inner wheel arch colour/s - front and rear
9. Evidence of SWR overspray on outer belly pans

4. The Glass Sekurit iogos - fixed side glass/front screens/cab door windows/skylights
All the glass in the bus is this logo. Except the corners which are still plexiglass. The windscreens appear to have been replaced. Would the windscreens be the same logo? In my earlier life experiences with BD's two 52's I owned had the large block logo. I would think by 55, the US DOT probably required something other than the German Sekurit??? Any thoughts??

If it's a U.S. spec bus then it should have Sigla, with logos in the outter corners. |

The front seat should have the little rubber pads. They are the same pads used on early post-Barndoor Buses. They are available new.
The 4 little feet on the front seat should stick straight down to prop up the front. Most of the ones I have seen are always bent underneath or broken off. If you drive the Bus for a long time, it's more comfortable for the seat to be propped up by the legs. |

Doug, a late US barndoor would likely have sigla front windshields, what are your logos?
Edit: sorry, just saw that Greggy mentioned the same thing |

Doug, nice bus.
Are your door pocket rivets sliver colored or brass?
Are you sure about the mileage being 10K? It is interesting that the bus lost its motor, got a respray and has shifter and pedal wear like it has seen more use. You would expect the speedo to have rolled on a bus with those characteristics. |

I was talking to Barndoor Dave today and he remembers when Rick Madden bought that bus from Jack White. Dave said when they drove it up from Oregon after Rick bought it that they blew the tranny up coming off the freeway. Luckily it was only a few blocks from Rick's house.
Doug thinks it has 100,000 miles, meaning it's travelled just over 10K miles since being advertised in '88. |

Of course, that seems to make more sense.
Did it come with the ambulance step from VW? |

Dougie - my bus' birth certificate says it was delivered to Riviera Motors, Portland, via San Francisco. Wonder if yours was the same
criminal masking effort on an og paint bus!

Forest Find DLX (55):
Unk BD:
Swedish 54:
all the pics i have show the 5"(?) wide black strip stuff on the vertical firewall section...
whereas the arch covers and lower firewall area appear match yours |

My '54 had a similar material under the front seat and helped to keep the springs from rattling on the sheet metal.
