Edit: sorry, just saw that Greggy mentioned the same thing
Any pictures of the logo? Or is it the same as found on late 55-60 deluxe...Sigla with no VW logo? |

Are your door pocket rivets sliver colored or brass?
Are you sure about the mileage being 10K? It is interesting that the bus lost its motor, got a respray and has shifter and pedal wear like it has seen more use. You would expect the speedo to have rolled on a bus with those characteristics.
Rivits....I tried to get pics, hard to see clearly. They do appear to be silver in color.
You misunderstood the mileage, it's an additional 10k since it was advertised in 1988 as having 89K about 575 miles a year since 88. |

I'll get some pics tomorrow if someone doesn't beat me to it. |

I'll get a picture of the step.....
I did recently receive a Pmail of another BD with the same step, the picture is a black and white period 50's pic. The step definitely appears to be a factory install. |

| I posted some pictures in the gallery for this thread, of my 1955 that is 3281 "older" away from Doug's. They are very similar. |

The front winshield logo on another 54 US import reads:
MADE IN GERMANY
WITTEN-RUHR
SIGLA
AS-1
I couldn't get a photo with the garage lights, I am sure Greg will have one within hours.... |

The logo is in the upper outter corner (as opposed to the inner corners like the '55 & later windshields). |

That logo is from my '57 standard, slightly different font but pretty much the same text. |

| I have a drivers side Sigla Barndoor windshield, it has AS-1, then ~D-06 under it...came out of my Feb. '55. I did not think it was correct, figured it should have Sekurit. |

If your bus was US delivered I would expect it to have Sigla windshields originally.
Although the piece you have I would suspect that would be a replacement piece because I've noticed that you start seeing D-06 stampings o Sigla glass ~1959. I wouldn't imagine them stamping D-06 in '55, stopping in '56, and then starting again in '59 but who knows......you're standard is pretty original, but windshields are easy and cheap to change....and get broken often. |

So this will work if the ~~D-06 is cut off before application?

Did that picture come from Matt?
I talked with Mark about that and I pointed out to him that the size of the logo is different. I need logos for my '56 Westy, and I would think that your glass would have an identical logo to that bus. The BD glass logo I pictured above was from a '53, and while it's similar to my '55 it isn't identical. I think that the logo you need for your early '55 deluxe would be sae as my 10-55 bus. |

| The November 1955 built Westfalia Camping Box I recently purchased has Sigla windscreens with the AS-1 logo no D-06 below it....I assume the glass is all original as all of the glass matches (Sekurit) other than the sigla windscreens.....the bus has never had the glass out as all of the seals has matching paint overspray to the seals......odd stuff as I thought sigla AS-1 glass was 1957 and later....could it be they used laminated in the windscreens only in the early years??...... Very Nice Deluxe Doug!! |

| Thanks Rich......I'm very pleased. A very complete bus, mostly original, so I am enjoying helping everyone with details as much if not more than finding out about the few details that the bus needs. I'm really looking forward to leaving the bus the way it is, but 100% complete. As of today just a few more parts needed!! |
