Come on Greg, sorry for the hurt feelings :D But posting a KDF cog handle trying to compare it to a 55 BD handle......maybe you get the 2 confused but there are plenty of us out here that don't.
And just to make you feel even better, I'll check my early 55 non BD single and 55 23 window as well....I'll bet they will have a similar part number. |

If anyone can't see the resembelence between the part number on the handle Doug posted and the part number on the handle I posted I'd be happy to provide additional clarification.
The "L XXX XXX" part numbers came out prior to the "29 XXX XXX" series part numbers. The "211.XXX.XXX" part number system replaced the 29 series. Obviously there is some carry over between the changes but I find it surprising that a January '55 deluxe would have the early series of part numbers. |

| The AL are made by Huf and would have a 'VW' stamped key and the 29 are BuM. From what i know it does seem that late 54's/55's have the AL handles. If anybody has a locking AL or 29 handle spare i need one. |

| for what its worth, i already had my handles off of a bus and accessable. i am 99.9% sure these are original handles to my dec. 54 #107051 and they both read as dougs,AL..... too pocked to get a decent photo though. |

I was just wondering if it matched his driver's handle for reference.
My 1/55 Kombi had a lot of stuff with 29 part #s on it but I don't have a record of what front door handles it had.
My '54 Truck has had the driver's door replaced but I think it still has the original driver's door handle. It uses the '53 key style. I don't have the part number or photos at this time. |

It seems in this case like my thoughts were wrong. I'm fine with that, and appreciate the information that can be learned from all of our experiences combined.
These forums are great, and without newbees like me questioning the opinions of people who have been into it for ages mistakes often go overlooked for years. |

| Just to try an help out I still have the doors off the 55 BD 23 I used to have and the handles are still on the doors. I know they were original to the bus. I'll go the warehouse and try and pull them off this weekend and see what they have as far as part numbers.. |

| my 55 bd has AL handles that appear to have never been removed, and it also uses the key shown above with the VW logo. It also has some 29 part number stuff on it. |

$6000 was insane at that time. |

No doubt, most of the really nice and interesting Buses you'd see would top out at about $3,000 at that time. |

This is the engine that came with the bus....anyone know the correct production date? Also there is the factory rebuilt stamp, along with two squares that I can't make out the letters. In the center there is a very small VW stamp with 99?
Below all the stamping there are a few numbers etched in by hand that are super hard to make out. Has anyone seen anything like this? What's the history?

Also located large diamond reflectors that needed some TLC due to broken studs.
