Hey Folks -

Well - I've posted about a 2.0L Type IV Engine problem I've had - dropped valve seat. Well - looked in the paper today - and there is a 2.0L bus engine Rebuilt for sale. Talked to the guy - he owns a VW shop - and he'd sell the engine for what he has in it - $800. It has a single carb setup on it - and he'd want an exchange for my engine. Would it be worth it to buy the engine - minus the carb setup (say for $700) - and install my injection system on it and put this in the bus? It has new heads, bottom end redone - dosent leak oil.

Ideas folks?

If 100 is all he'll knock off for keeping the carb set-up then buy it for 800 and sell the carb yourself. To me for instance for $100. I don't really want a single-carb, but it will work until duals come around. As long as he knows what he is doing rebuild wise, I think 800 is a good price. About 400-1000 less than many I've seen. I personally wouldn't put my FI system on it, I'm sick of chasing electrical probs. I want to change to carbs as soon as possible. Dave

Well - the guy DEFINATELY knows what he's doing. He's been working on VW's for 20+ years. The engine is CLEAN - NO oil leaks - nice and tight - complete and correct and STRONG for a single carb engine. If I were to do a single carb instead of FI- thats the way I would have done it. I MAY keep the single carb for a while. So now I have to swap flywheels and engines. But - what a deal~!
