if they arent totally destroyed i would pick them up anyways because they are worth a lot more than that in parts. you could probably find someone looking for corvair parts and sell one and make enough to swap the other into your baja.
the power of a corvair is pretty good, and its just as easy to work on as a VW.
check it,
look like fun? :)

| Corvair motors just like VW can be your best friend or worst nightmare. I've had for years and it's been allot of fun. The sound, power and low end torque are unreal. Allot will depend on how you set them up. Ideally you'll want to "reverse" the engine, so it runs backwards or the right direct in order to mate up to a VW transaxle. Other than that there are a ton of options. It's all about how much time and money you have. But tere comes a point though where you seriously need to ask yourself, "am I dollars ahead by going with a water pumper?". The guy I bought my motor from had over $9000 invested in it. He basically kept the block and had everything else custom made. Which made replacing a broken or worn part a real B^%*# and extremely expensive. But how many other air cooled motors can put out 240 to 300 HP naturally aspirated and still be reliable. |

I almost bought a Corvair powered Baja Bug back in 1991. It had a Hadley Engineering kit that used the Corvair engine, transmission, axles and rear brakes.
If I could have gotten that thing to start, I would have bought it.
A few years later I bought a 1963 Corvair van and drove it around for 10 years after I rebuilt everything.

Steve McQueen was a real race car driver. starred in "Le Mans" in '71 and liked it. Gave the studios conniption fits.
Paul Newman started racing after filming "Winning"
James Garner started racing after filming "Grand Prix" |
