I just bought a 2003 GTI and the lights in the climate control center just went out.

How do I replace the bulb? I'm pretty handy, just can't figure how to get to it. I really don't want to pay adealer (whos 30+miles away) to replace one bulb. Any help out there?

I'm assuming this is the manual HVAC contol and not the climatronic?

The bulb is located behing the center control knob. before you start, get a piece of AQUARIUM AIR TUBING. tHE BULB FROM THE DEALER IS LIKE $.59. I keep a spare and the tubing in my tool box.

To remove the knob, use a rag and a pair of plyers and gently pull the center knob off. the bulb is in the hole in the 12:00 position of the switch housing. use the tubing to grab the bulb, pushing the tubing over teh bulb far enough to grab it. to install the bulb, place teh bulb inside the tubing just enough to hold it and gently push teh bulb into the socket to seat it without pushing it too far into the tubing. replace the control knob. I can do i in under a nminute usually. The dealer does it exactly that way and charges an hour labor to "remove and replace the HVAC control illumination light" the more unscrupulus dealers are known to have chqarged uninformed customers for replacing the entire control.
