I can only guess a "blanking bung" is the flasher switch. 62's have a wiper switch on the left, headlight on the right, and a flasher switch (not red) on the far right.

sorry- 'blanking bung' is a poor description. i mean the little plastic bung that goes in the original ignition hole, that is no longer used as it has a steering lock. this bus seems to have a little switch in there, similar to the switch on the opposite side of the pod that 'kills 'the rear cargo light.

| Possibly the locking switch is for mechanical unlock only, because the electrical switch is bad, and the toggle is for starting the car. |

| Looks I finally got a flip seat for my flipseat. :) I got a couple of rear seat cushions this summer too. Time to start building I suppose. :) Kris, Kevin or whomever - I'm looking for dimensions for the rear stuff: Under bench cabinet, Drivers side rear cabinet, etc. I only have the rear closet to use for a paatern. I did see Chris' template/diagram for one closet earlier in the thread. Any help is greatly appreciated! |

| Uh... I'll see what I can do, sent some templates, of the Ice box and passenger cabinet, to Alex, so maybe give him a shot. I'll try to get some more drawings up in a few days. |

Chris is definately the man with the dimensions. I'm just now collecting my interior. I've got the flipseat, two rear seat cushions and I am working on getting the passenger front cabinet, skateboard cabinet, jumpseat, seat bases, and seat cushion from a friend.
I do have a question for you all: when did the number of screws on the sides of the rear seat changed from 2 to 3 or from 3 to 2? They hold the wooden part of the seat to the side rails.

I'll try this another way... I am looking at purchasing some interior cabinets for my SO 34, and I am curious what the differences are between the big hatch SO 34 and small hatch SO 34. I have a 62, and I would like to purchase and install the correct cabinets. Anybody know? Whether this has been covered before or not, I'd like some help with a link or info.

'61-'62 busses take the early style brass catches and the '63-'64 take the triangle shaped knobs, so that's one difference. I believe the door along the floor behind the drivers seat hinges a different direction in the later interiors as well. |

Thanks Greg. What about the cabinets towards the rear of the bus? The passenger cabinet has to be different b/c of the curvature of the corner of the bus, plus the different knobs. What about the skateboard cabinent? Same except for the knobs? |

Here is some differences to add, sorry if I repeat something someone else posted.
-as Greg said triangle knobs start about April `62 previous brass cathces.
-earliest `61s had brass trim around doors like an so-23 then moved to plastic
-the water bottle door opens a different direction around mid `62
-the main table changes from oval square to a perfect square around `63
-with the advent of the big window the long passenger side closet cabinet changes at the rear to accomidate the wider door opening and the spring style hinge.
-Also with the advent of the big hatch the large formica covered plywood piece that the rolling cooking cabinet swings across on become a piece of (usually white and black) marbelized vinyl. Because of this I am told the icebox unit and the rolling cooking cabinet specifictaions are changed
to fit the different set up.
-early to late the jumpseat latching mechanism changes.
At first glance the interiors look the same but the large window interior is quite different then the early one. I have also noticed this with early and late so-33 interiors. If you have seen both and compared the differences are very noticable. I have seen folks install early in late and late in early but there is usually big issues with proper fit. |

Now that my bus is finallly home I can join in on the westy thread. I just got flipseat to flip and unveil the mcode plate. L345 light grey with SJ export code. Over the years I assumed L87 pearl white due to the chalking of paint.
Where does table get stored in bus when not in use?
Will post pics of folding chair tonight. Anyone have detailed pics of correct chair?
Does a chemical toilet go under rear jumpseat? |
