Hello ! I'm a new member. I have been driving VW diesel pick-up's for the last 27 years . My current vehicle just blew the head gasket , I was going to repair it but the body is just about to give up also. Used ones are pretty hard to find and I would love to start fresh with a new one. They are still sold in Europe and in Mexico and South America. Does anyone have any experience with importing VW's ? Is it worth it , or is it even possible ? Any information would be greatly appreiciated. THANKS!!!!

| Importing a non-USA model later than the late '60s is going to be very hard, since you will have to fit it with USA smog and safety gear (emissions controls, laminated windshield, etc). If it is a model not imported here then you are on the hook for emission testing to prove it meets standards then in effect. I'd bother for a Lambo or other exotic, but for a plain VW? Too much work. |

| And it goes further than that. Many will need parts that aren't offered here. Even if you cleverly and persistently squeeze through the hoops, you may be disappointed in the end. |
