I like Crysis, but the way it runs on my computer sucks. I have to have it on Medium and 800x600 for a decent framerate (AMDx2 4200, 7900gt). COD4 looks almost as good and runs like a dream. |

I agree. Crysis looks great (I even upgraded to Vista for the DX10 effects), but when you stop killing Koreans and start facing the ancient aliens that the Koreans unearth, the game seriously goes downhill. When I get to the aliens, I start a new game and go through the jungle to shoot more Koreans. Maybe I just really enjoy killing Koreans? |

Well, the snow levels are the slowest running of the game... I like killing aliens (especially grabbing them and throwing them, that's the easiest way to kill 'em) but those later levels just run at like 9fps on my computer... and my friend has a SUPER fucking computer with a geforce 9800 and everything else, and still DX10 effects and all, runs slow. |

my friend just built a quad core processor with 64 bit windows and 4 gigs of ram and an 8800 and he was all pissed that crysis ran like crap. |

He should have gone with the 32 bit version of whichever Windows he's running. When the game companies start putting 64 bit support into their games, he will no longer need to emulate the 32 bit system on the fly. I have the same setup and Crysis runs fine...until you hit the aliens. Then it's just stupid and you wish you saved your money. |

not quite sure what your saying, its running 64 bit windows, primarily for the ram recognition. |

4GB is addressable in WinXP 32. |

4GB is addressable in WinXP 32.
from microsoft
Quote: Operating systems based on Microsoft® Windows NT® technologies have always provided applications with a flat 32-bit virtual address space that describes 4 gigabytes (GB) of virtual memory. The address space is usually split so that 2 GB of address space is directly accessible to the application and the other 2 GB is only accessible to the Windows executive software
only utilizes 2 gigs for gaming the rest is restricted to the kernal. |

Kernel. Games are written to that limitation.
Boot.ini options, they've been around for a while.
/3GB
Increases the size of the user process address space from 2 GB to 3 GB (and therefore reduces the size of system space from 2 GB to 1 GB). Giving virtual-memory- intensive applications such as database servers a larger address space can improve their performance. For an application to take advantage of this feature, however, two additional conditions must be met: the system must be running Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows NT 4 Enterprise Edition, Windows 2000 Advanced Server or Datacenter Server and the application .exe must be flagged as a 3-GB-aware application. Applies to 32-bit systems only. |
