| I have a '78 Westy (2.0 liter, fuel injected) that has been going though a lot of oil lately. I don't see any active leaks (it's not dripping on the driveway), so I assume the missing oil's being burned. Also, the problem is somewhat sporradic, and it seems to be worst on long highway trips, when I can go through a whole quart in 150 miles. I think that I've traced the problem to the crankcase breather hose- I found a fair amount of oil and brownish foam in the S-shaped plastic tube connecting the MAF sensor to the throttle, and in the vacuum lines that I recently replaced. The crankcase ventilation system consists of a rectangular plastic overflow/breather tank, about the size of a fist, latched to the top of the engine, upon which is bolted some sort of roundish valve assembly (part #022 115 303A), which then connects to the S-shaped tube via a length of rubber tubing. I don't know if this 'breather valve' is stock (previous owner had a habit of jury-rigging his repairs instead of purchasing the correct replacement parts) or even how it functions, but I've had a lot of difficulty finding information about it or locating spare parts online. Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks |

| the valve ass. is stock sounds like worn rings or a burn't piston causing big blow by! run the engine at high speed then remove the oil cap if you see smoke and oil spewing from the oil filler if it dose that's the problem!the motor will probably try to kill when you take the cap of becuse it's a closed system .good luck steve |
