I was 18 and bought myself a 71 bug that had been painted red and white with house paint with a brush, it was a real beauty! After a few months or so the generator went out and I purchased a replacement. I spent all day changing that generator because I didnt know it was easier to pull the motor. In the box with the new generator were a bunch of round washer-like shims. I tried to put the belt on but could not figure out how to adjust the generator up or down to put the belt on. I finally stretched the belt on and found that the belt was loose. I still could not figure out how to adjust the belt tension. I picked up the shims out of the box and figured that they went between the generator and the stand. It actually worked for a year or so.

When I was 16 I took a Baja Champion SE '72 and painted it peach, lowered it, put in one piece windows and shaved the dash. Then sold the wheels with the hard to find caps for $100 to put chromies on.

When I was about 17 I loaded the front down with half-hi cinder blocks to make the front end lower! I'm too ashamed to tell you how many would fit in the trunk!! I'm 36 now and know better!!

When I first started driving the accelerator cable broke on my 80 Rabbit about 10 miles from home late at night. I knew I had another one there and didn't really want to bother anyone that late at night so I tied a piece of rope from the linkage on the throttle body to the license plate frame. Then I shoved different sized rocks between it and the bumper to achieve the rpm I wanted. Worked great until I decided to drop the girlfriend (now wife) off on the way about 3 miles from home. Being a gentlemen I drove her down into her driveway instead of letting her off by the road and when I tried to back out I didn't have enough RPMs to get back up the slight grade to the road. To fix the problem I shoved a BIG rock in behind the license plate and really brought the RPMs up. Once I got on the road I didn't bother to lower it back down, figuring I wouldn't be going that fast at that many RPMs. Well, was I wrong! Ended up doing about 120 km/h the whole way home. There were a couple turns I had to shut the car off to get around because the engine would nearly redline if I pushed the clutch and I'd lose my headlights when I shut it off (I didn't realize I could have just pulled ack on the dimmer switch and had my highlights). Every time the lights came back on I expected to see a deer or something in front of me. The things you do when you're young and stupid.

We stole some beer @ a Shasta Lake marina. Passed a CHP on I5 and started shoveling all the beer out all 4 windows of a 56 chevy 2 door hardtop across the Pit River Bridge! Didn't get caught, but we never stole again!

I'm 18, and I'm restoring a bug that some idiot hillbilly had before me, he painted the interior flat black and broke off all the switches in the dash with what looks like a bloody chisel. And if I ever sell it someone will kill me in their mind for doing all the mods I'm doing right now, like the starter/tranny access hatch (don't worry, the floor was really rusted :D)

Yeah, so they can learn how to use a chisel on their axel nuts when they don't have a 36mm socket

im 15 (got my buggy for $500 bucks after it had been sitting under a tree for 28 years at 14) and i jumped completely past the chisel to the cut off wheel to get the rear wheel nuts off  i didnt want to but i was using a 12 foot breaker bar (steel pipe) and i ended up shearing off a lug because the nut was rusted and no amount of rust buster or hammering would loosen it

also after adding the 2 inch lift i had to move the steering box up and the steering column down. the problem with that? well my new wheel doesnt stick out from the mounting point much so it would rub on the windshield badly when i tried to turn more than a half turn (flat bottomed wheel). however at the same time my engine was making some funny noises so i drove it the two blocks to the house of a neighbor that works on vws so he could diagnose it. after telling me to adjust my valves and checking the head stud torque he sent me off. now this may seem pretty unspectacular but since he lives on a driveway with other homes i had to drive out o the road then turn the wheel over several times to get onto the street. at this time i had very little experience driving a manual (approximate 10 minutes  ) so after pushing the windshield away and getting the wheel turned i tried to declutch and ended up stalling. so in frustration i restarted it and revved it up to about 3500 RPM's before dumping the clutch. what resulted was actually a pretty cool powerslide out of the guys driveway and onto the slick rainy road. the problem though was the fact that my wheel was stuck and i couldnt straighten out the tires and also i panicked from the lack of experience and didnt think to just declutch  . so after sliding in almost a complete circle i realized what was happening and declutched to push my windshield forward so i could turn my wheel back. after that i putted back to my house in first gear afraid to turn the wheel or shift  . now im working on a complete steering conversion that will fix that problem i hope.

when i was about 19, i GAVE AWAY a 1969 beetle, nothing wrong with it, daily driver.... why you may ask? because i was excited for my new motorcycle, and it didnt fit in the garage. so i had to make room for it. it seemed like a good idea at the time... i wrecked and no longer have a bike, or a '69...

I am 16, and I tried to strip off the repaint and go down to OG paint, only to find there wasn't much left. So now my car looks like absolute crap, with primer and different colored spray paint keeping the bare metal I unearthed from rusting.

When I was 15 I bought a VW #-o
