I picked up my 'new' 1965 Bug yesterday. It's literally a documented, one-owner, 44K mile vehicle. It was born in California, moved to Arizona in 1969 until the lady passed away. A family member has been storing in his barn since 2003. Only thing I can see that has been replaced are the seat covers...no repaint...no rust in the usual areas...nothing. Every registration was in the glove compartment. Can you tell I'm pleased with the purchase?

Nice find!!!!

It was born in California :-s ?? Adopted by a family in California, perhaps, but born in Germany... :P . Very nice find! I love my all original '65. It has appx. 11,700 original miles AND it has dealer-installed A/C.

What's the "T" handle on the dash, just to the right of the ash tray? Also, I see someone added the locking trunk release from a convertible. The carb and fuel pump are not original. They are Brazilian garbage. Consider finding German ones for best performance and longevity. The distributor doesnt look original either. Pray the PO didnt cut the dash to fit the newer style radio!

I see it still has the original fender beading and 101 sideview mirror. It looks like a very nice find. Too bad it didnt come with the original CA black plates :( . What are your plans for it?

You gotta give it a name to bring it to life... 8)

at least it has the correct steering wheel and horn bar on it. maybe that herbie guy can come look at how it is not a broken D horn ring.

Yeah, California...you know how those lyin' dealers are.

T handle is a manual choke. Guess she wanted something to control.

Yeah, I'm actually diggin' the trunk release 'mod'.

Yes, German parts all the way.

No dash butchering...aftermarket slipped in the original hole. I have original radio.

Good question on the future plans. One thing that won't happen...anything 'custom'. Been there...done that. (see sig) Due to age, there are some things I won't ignore. Glass rubber, scrapers, door seals, seats, carpet, door panels (may salvage except for arm rests) and quality paint.

Wife named it immediately. Hug Bug. Has a nice ring to it....

Spectacular! Consider very carefully rubbing out that paint. It doesn't look bad in the pictures, and if you can save it, it will be really special. I have one that had been repainted, then sat in the California sun for ten years. With many, many hours of handwork, it bounced back and looks great.

I REALLY wish that could be the case, but unfortunately there are three or four areas where someone got aggressive with some polishing and went to the primer. Also, on the upper part of the driver's door the paint is gone due to someone laying an arm there while driving/sweating. It's a shame because I've brought back other areas to a good looking finish.

nice find .
You might get a color match for the paint and just blend it back in with the OG ? What color is it ? pearl white , or fontana gray ?
Mine is fontana gray , Im going to save as much OG paint as possible .
I figure it's worth a try rather than repainting the whole car .

Really nice car. Little old lady cars are the best. Does it run?

KTPhil Fri Feb 01, 2008 9:44 pm

Interesting carb... manual choke and an electromagnetic pilot jet! Not stock in '65.

draginwagen Fri Feb 01, 2008 9:51 pm

Sweet find!

Euro 67 Fri Feb 01, 2008 10:34 pm

Personally, leave the carb, at least it runs with it,? The manual choke is the best for controlling when your choke realeses (sp)

Nice find, Change the Uh-OH-NEIN out for the correct 40 horse big cap distributer, a fellow here by the name of Glenn ring can sell you a real nice one for a 130 big ones, fully reastored.

Have fun, and don't, and I emphisize on this, don't drop it, slam it, panscrape an all OG bug, (Okay 90% all OG) And oh yeah, enjoy it!
