My 3 year old son loves helping me with my car (or anything else for that matter). He calls it "Daddy's Race Car" and the two of us take it to every show that we have time for.
Are your kids into VW's like mine?

My 12yo daughter is way into the old-style Bugs. Even stole the calendar out of the latest HotVW magazine. My quandry is what to do in a couple of years when she's able to drive. While my own parents didnt give two hoots about what I drove so long as it didnt leak too much oil on the driveway, I am concerned about safety and being her first car and all.
Maybe (just maybe) if we got one and got her to work on it with me and invest some sweat equity into it, she'd be more careful? Probably not. :(
And that doesnt take into account the other driver's she'd have to look out for. |

We bought our oldest daughter a used New Beetle for her 16th birthday, then she sold that a couple of years ago and bought an Acura. Last week she tells me she's going to sell her Acura and get another Beetle. I asked if she was interested in another new beetle or an older Bug. She said she would love to get an older Bug but never sees any for sale around us. #-o
The youngest daughter has been on here looking for a car but she can't decide what she wants. :? |

| Both of my kids (11&13) are hooked! Looking for a clean 68-70 Bay for my daughter, my son told me he wants a Beetle instead of the Willy's I was going to put together (guess my wife gets it back). Will probably do a 68> non super for him, let him do an early car later (after a little experience behind the wheel). Both will probably end up with an early water cooled for safe daily driving. |

Well I am the kid.
My dad had two buses back in the day, he traded one away and kept one stored up at the family farm.
He recently picked up a MK1 cabriolet, and that got me interested in the bus. Now the bus is is sitting in the garage with the motor just about to go back in. Lots of fun. |

My kids helped me in the garage when they were growing up. My son can build a VW engine if he has to, but he prefers Honduhs, and bicycles right now. He is 40.
My daughter is pretty self sufficient when it comes to cars. Her hubby is military, and is away from home a lot, and I get very few calls from her for car help when he is gone. |

I'm only 17, and my dad got me hooked when I was 10, and he baught a 73 standard Baja, it was supposed to be my first car, but he sold it.
Then he baught a 67, and a 62, that he let me build myself, and it now is a daily driver completely OG, with a 1600 of course.
The 67, I change the pan out, and put a lowered pan on it, then my Dad did the rest pretty much.
The last 67, the one I have now, was a freebie, and it was a total basket case. I brought it back, and although the front looks like hell, the rest is coming together quite nicely.
I can build a motor if I had too, and I can fix any problem on a BUG, on the side of the road, now my fasty is another story, I am still learning on the type 3 scene. |

| My daughter who is going to be 14YO in July insisted that I take her out to teach her to drive and fix my bus this summer, so that when she is 16 and gets her license she can drive her pals to the Mall in Style. |

My kids were raised in VW's (ones that ran well!) and have them for their daily drivers. The twins have a 72 yellow squareback and my son drives my notchback at times.
My oldest son who's now 18 years old.
The twins $500 squareback. $500 before repairs that is.

My daughter has been with the program since she was born. She's 15 1/2 now and going on her first driving "lesson" with an instructor as I write this. She wants to drive buses... Get ready everyone, it will happen to you before you know it.

My kids (9 and 7) love driving around in the "blue car" (Notch), and love the Bus (Westy) even better, especially when the summer rolls around and we're at the beach all the time, they love pulling out the z-bed and crashing out on the way home after sunset.
I know they appreciate it. We build memories together. |

i dont have a son or daughter but i got my little sister into vw's when she was about 10. i had my 74 bug that i got running and taught her how to drive a stick. i later got her a 74 super with a 2 liter motor, it was free and is solid, but as she read more vw websites she came to me one day and told me point blank that she doesnt want a fatty.
soooo, i got a 62 singlecab and my sister loves it. i let her drive it around the parking lot during our club meets and she has a blast. two weeks ago i picked her up a nice 61 ragtop. she doesnt know yet, it will be a 14th birthday present. |

My 4 year old (3 in the pic), loves my Ghia and Beetle. He says the Ghia is his and the Beetle is his 10 month old brother's car. At a show this summer, he requested to "judge" the other cars. I bought a 4 pack of plastic trophies at the dollar store and he passed them out to his favorites (one of which was the Ghia of course)!!!!
