Very good job, very cool square.

Yeah...I am impressed how you have gotten so much done in your driveway! Excellent ride, attention to quality, and detail. I have a 4000 sq ft building, lift, welders, and paint booth and can't seem to get as much done as you have. The shoemakers kids NEVER have shoes...the bodyman's car is NEVER one color either!!! Great Job man, keep posting!

It does look sweet with the new wheels, but it looks like you might need a short axle conversion like localboy did to keep the stance you want?

Wow! Thanks for the kind words. Instead of doing a short axle conversion, I think I'm going to raise the car about 2/3" I want some subtle rake. All fenders are going to be getting rolled as well. It's probably not necessary but I'll feel better ot have the extra clearance. 8) And to your point munkee, my dad was a house painter growing up... guess whose house was a permanent work in progress... Aveyinc, thank you!

Oh, I agree. Like I said it looks good; the lowered stance, paint, rust repair. As far as the short axles isn't it still IRS? That would make is somewhat more difficult.

I'm probably guilty of not posting much on this build, but then I've also been busy myself, helping Russ out, and then coming home and working on my wife's car (getting it ready for the summer driving season). It's looking damn good (for a rust bucket  ), and I love the tire and wheel combo (really makes it look sweet 8) ). But there's still the tan interior sheet metal mixed with the blue outside that looks out of place. I really liked the metal repair of the rear load floor (most people don't care to spend the time needed to fixing it right), and all the dynamat should help control the unwanted sounds and vibrations.
I do agree that you might want to raise the rear up a spline or so, as it's sitting a little low back there for any kind of load (you're going to want to test that floor anyway). I kinda ran into the same issue with my 71 Notch, as it's sitting a little too low for comfortable driving, that and I want to put a taller tire in the rear (to get the gearing closer back to stock). I don't know if you've taken it out and driven it yet, but you might find some other issues if you. I also don't know if you've reset the toe in, since you did the drop up front, but more than likely, you'll take it to an alignment shop, and get both ends set. I just wouldn't put too many miles on it until you do though.
All that said, great job, especially doing it in your driveway!! 8)

Thanks for the tips Bob. I wouldn't have known about adjusting the toe-in otherwise. I'm hoping to take care of the ride height and front end alignment this week. :181_blue:

make sure you post picture as soon as you roll the fenders.

Looks great man! Thumbs up!!!

RafCarre12 Wed May 28, 2008 10:56 am

Thanks guys.

I'm not going to have the fender roller til later today so I thought I'd work on the interior a little...

There are the cables that need tucking away and a few things here and there but its not looking too bad. :)

You did a really nice job on the carpet. I like the color too. The car is coming along great, keep it up.

RafCarre12 Wed May 28, 2008 6:24 pm

Thanks.

So I had to raise the car... funny that it looks exactly how I originally wanted it to look... I was contemplating lowering the rear about 2/3" but the I couldnt get the inner splines to disengage... I think it looks pretty good though... I'm happy. It's tucking about 1/2" of tire in back and its just flush with the meat in front.

That looks a lot better. 8) I like the slight rake you've got too. All you need to do now, is drive it around for part of a day, and see if it settles that 2/3". I only say that, because my Notch did that after I originally lowered it (settled about 1/2 to 5/8 of an inch). Ended up bringing it back up a partial notch (inner and outer combo). Did you try shaking the bar back and forth, and up and down while pulling on it? I had to do that on my left side to get the inner to "let go". Looks good though.

RafCarre12 Wed May 28, 2008 8:19 pm

Thanks Bob, I like the way it sits right now... I have a few electrical things that I want to sort out before driving it around much (turn signals don't work). As far as the rear bar, I grabbed and shook the shit out of it while pulling as you said... no dice though. :D

localboy Thu May 29, 2008 7:23 am

Nice. Looks good! Those inner splines can be a PIA..

RafCarre12 Thu May 29, 2008 6:35 pm

Got home kinda late from work so I only had time to put on the other two wheels.

A little subtle camber on the 1 spline lowering...

Sexy butt shot...

And the model face stance...

munkeeknuts Thu May 29, 2008 9:42 pm

The more pics I see of your car with the wide tires and the stance...all I can say is it's the cat's ass! Where did you get your carpet kit from? Check out my thread "Now I've done it!" Just bought a 56,000 mile fat chick! Pics to follow. Raf...you have inspired me. Truly.

DONGKG Thu May 29, 2008 10:07 pm

Damn, that is a great you!

It seems looks like a walk in the park doing it, buddy!

Congrats!

Ok,

I am loving what you have done with your car. I recently got my first Type 3 and I am doing a lot of the same things you are doing, ie.: no rust, but I have accomplished NONE of the things you have.

I just want to say that you are motivating me to get a job (DC area) and finally start buying the big ticket items. Exhaust, wheels, paint, body work, blah, blah, blah...

But that is another Type 3 story. This thread is about what a great and cool job you have done on your Type 3. Those wheels look great. The most recent lower stance is perfect and I love the look of the new carpet.

Great job Raf and keep the pictures coming.

You have to go the invasion. I would love to see your car in person.

Cheers,

Josh

Wow, I would have never imagined that anyone would actually care to even look at my thread, yet be inspired by anything I posted on it! I'm very flattered. Thank you!

Back to being a n00bert for me...

Condition: Fuel gauge doesn't work.

What I've tried so far. Upon disconnecting the brown wire atop the fuel sender, the gauge reads full. Mind you, it does this while the wire is just hanging and NOT grounded. It just reads full whenever that brown wire is off of sender regardless of it being connected to anything else.

I read on here that it may be a ground issue, so I attached a new wire with two "O" loops on either end and attached one end to one of the hex bolts that holds the sender on and the other to the body via an existing screw. Did this while the brown wire was re-attached to the sender. No change.

Advice please.

I have turn signal/flasher questions next, I think I may need a new relay. The lights themselves work, they just don't alternate/flash (turn on and off).

RafCarre12 Sun Jun 01, 2008 2:58 pm

They're both fixed. I have 1/3 tank of gas. I don't know if the trip counter works yet cuz I didn't drive it... ask me why.
