Call it epiphany! Actually, It never really mattered that much to me as long as it was a type 3. But...you know what they say...once you go FAT, you NEVER go back!!! 8)

ps-thanks for the compliment, keep an eye out on the progress.

Thanks guys, I was just trying to have a little fun with it.

So tomorrow is the first show the square will be attending. Ordinarily, if someone was to be attending their first show, it would be a day for a full detail... but it wasn't. I spent the large majority of the day putting this up...

It is 14' wide by something like 40' long... but the rough framing is done, the holes are dug and ready to be inspected. I think the rest of it is also going to go pretty quickly.

I did manage to wash, clay bar and wax the car but I didn't really take my time since there are thunderstorms brewing tonight.

Dude, Litchfield Bug In is an AWESOME show...I used to show my 73 Superbeetle there every year when I lived in CT. There were never a lot of type 3's there. I am glad you went, hopefully, you did well in your class. I used to belong to Shoreline VeeDubs car club up in CT. If they have not disbanded, they will probably be there. Good Luck, Have Fun!

So the square's first show... the Litchfield Bug In... 2008.

We got there around 9:30 or so and take the first parking spot in the t3/t4 class.

Hmm, I'm the only one here and it started to rain a little... but its okay, they hooked us up with a sweet spot.

So finally! another t3 shows up, a ground up restored 65 that was minty fresh, gorgeous car.

I had a few fans too. :) A mess of people were asking if it was on bags due to the lack of fender gap... one guy even asked if i trailered it when I told him i lived about 120 miles away.

So then came the judge... who gave me a shit about it being so low... haha...

The one other car in the class was a 411 that was as original as you could get... down to the owner. SUPER clean car. You can kinda see it there in the background... I didn't take any pictures of it because I think they're butt ugly. :P

We left the show before awards were announced so I know the square got at least 3rd place :D

Nice rolling shot thanks to the hendogg...

All in all, awesome show, great atmosphere. The square rode awesome. I highly recommend this show to anyone that is tempted to make the trip to CT. The next show is in August sometime. I have other pictures of the show itself but I'll post them in their proper place.

Yeah, we chatted for a while. He was telling me about his other cars. He kinda kept to himself though.

Yeah, Keith is like that. He's a purist, who also has a light darkside. :D Did you check out the cruise control he's got on that Notch? I think he did a pretty sweet job of setting it up. Everytime I see that car of his, I think the front needs to come down a spline (minimum). He's planning on taking it to the Invasion, so everyone there will get to see it in person.
Raf, the car is looking good mon, real good. 8) (insert 2 thumbs up icons here)

I really dig the porsche slots on your car. I really dont care for them on almost anything, but they look great on yours

munkeeknuts Sun Jun 15, 2008 7:40 pm

Congrats on placing. If I remember correctly, with my Super, I took a 2nd one year and a 3rd another. That was 15 years ago though! Huge show, lots of fun.

Haha, yeah. I was wondering what it was until I stuck my head in his car... I liked the height of his car... made mine look that much lower! Thanks Bob!

I agree, I've seen them on a bunch of mk2's and mk3's and they usually don't look right.

I had a real good time at the show. Oh and its kinda easy placing when there were only 3 cars in the class!!! LOLOLOL

The generator and oil lights turn on when I put the wheel in the accessory position. Once I crank the engine over the oil light turns off but the generator light stays on... I checked the belt and it is not too loose and it seems fine.

I started reading the muir book and it says the next step is to check the brushes by first identifying two long slits close to the pulley... I'm not sure what he means here since it is just the one on the t3 but I guess it is this:

Procedure says to take sandpaper to clean off anything that may have built up or whatever... do I pop off the spring and clean it off that way? I don't see how I'd be able to slide a piece of sandpaper underneath easily.

Anyhow, the battery isn't getting drained at all so, from my crude understanding, means that the contact points aren't stuck. Also, the gen light doesn't stay on when the car is off... it is only on when the car is running.

Any advice/corrections/next steps would be appreciated.

Here is what I can offer: remove the brushes (what is boxed), and get a piece of sand paper and a Popsicle stick. Rap the sandpaper on the stick, start the engine, and then sandpaper the copper shaft. Put it all back, and go for a drive. See if you are getting 14.3 volts at the regulator (the biggest box under the rear seat, under the armrest). If not, I can see if I have Jim Adney's charging system F.A.Q..
