i instaled a pertronix ignitor in my 1969 bus. it is on a vacuum advance dizzy, and is the one for the vacuum advance. now, it takes about 2 minutes of cranking before the engine will start. what's the deal, it didn't do this when i was running a 009!

| Could be several problems, but if it runs then none of the problems should be any big deal. How does the bus run after it actually starts? Did you use the plastic feeler gauge or a brass only (not a regular metal one) feeler gauge to set the correct air gap? Did your reset the timing? The nice thing about the Pertronix is it either works or it doesn't. Not a lot of variation between working or not working. Air gap needs to be proper or it simply won't work very well or not at all. Your vacuum advance distributor shouldn't make a difference when starting the bus even if it has problems. Problems with a distributor wouldn't typically show up while starting, but would be more pronounced when driving the bus as the RPMs increase and the distributor doesn't advance properly. Good luck. |
